Well............ I went to the location and it scared me to death. There were alot of creepy guys hanging around outside and I got scared and left. Is that horrible? I know I have been so depressed..I have been here every day trying to read some inspiration.
I found another meeting (on the Georgia NA site) that is at a church on Saturday night. I'm going to try again. The other meeting was at a center that was more for court appointed DUI classes and that type thing. I really need to be somewhere comfortable. I'm going to try this church on Saturday. My mom said I may have to try a couple of places to get the right one. Sheesh. I feel like a dope. .

i would have done the same thing..we have some meetings here that i would be scard to death to go to...really bad neighborhoods..
keep lookin you will find one thats right for you...

Hey Joszette,

You are NOT a dope. I went to my first meeting and the door was locked! I hung around...and waited...I felt like a big dork standing out there on the sidewalk. Finally, some real scrawny dudes opened the door and went in and I was like..jeesh, I'm in a suit with heels, makeup, hair done, etc.. I thought for a moment, this AA thing isn't for me..I don't fit. Was the locked door a message from God? (ha ha ha) Then in the next two minutes, the miracle happened, a pretty young woman went in. At that point, I knew I could fit in. I've been going ever since.

You do have to be comfortable... Sometimes I feel like I don't have "the look" and that I don't fit in. But I still think, this isn't a job interview where I need to look the part (heck, I already HAVE the job (of being an alkie). And anyway, maybe there is someone like me, sitting in the parking lot, scared to go in...watching.... So, now I think it is my duty to walk bravely through those doors and into those rooms.

I'm praying for you for Saturday. YOU, however, only need to focus on today and not drinking/using just for today.

Stick with it! It works if you work it!

Just remember, they are addicts, we are all creepy looking at some point or another. But, I have found that is the creepy looking ones that have the biggest hearts. They aren't trying to hide behind looking good. Try again, and keep on trying until you do it. I will keep you in my prayers. Most of my friends, my husband included can be down right scary looking on some days. (me too)

You are all so sweet and supportive...I definately feel better about going tomorrow. I'll wear something casual. This meeting is right down the street from my house (maybe I'll even know some people there, LOL!)Thanks for helping ease the nerves...I'll post tomorrow and let you know how it goes. (I'm actually looking forward to getting into a good meeting!!) P.S. I haven't used ANYTHING in almost 7 days!! Feeling good!!

I too am proud of you taking these life changing steps. I am glad you found a good meeting where you feel comfortable. Also addiction has grabbed many walks of life rich, poor, skinny, fat, tall, short the main thing and only thing that matters most is we are all addicted to something and it has taken some control over our lives eventually bringing us to the same place hopefully a meeting. Others well you know where they end up.

Hey Carrie..I made it to the meeting and got my white chip. I loved how warm everyone was. They were all very kind to me and really reached out. Some of them have been sober for years and years. Listening to them tell about how happy they are and how grateful was what I needed. I will definately go back next week, until then I'm taking it one day at a time..Today, I don't need a drink or drugs because I have a warm feeling inside. I know I'm going to be okay. I went shopping instead. (uh oh....is there a group for that?? LOL)

Hey Josezette--My sister lives in Atlanta and I went to AA meetings in two pretty great places when I was there for her wedding this past spring. Are you trying for more AA or NA? I would be happy to tell you about these two places if you'd like. I am coming to Atlanta for Thanksgiving and will definitely be going to meetings then.

My heart is filled with joy !!! Not sure why, maybe because you made it to a meeting and are on this great road to recovery (OK, sometimes tough, sometimes great...but always worth it!).
