| Oprah Wednesday
Oprah is doing a show called 'Inside Detox' on Wednesday. I hope it will be well-done. She did an excellent show on addiction a couple of months ago, which was great. I strongly believe that putting these issues in front of the 'average' person is of benefit to all of us addicts. I think all of us addicts know what it's like to deal with people who know nothing about addiction and have so many misconceptions about us. I'd love to see so much more information available for people so that we weren't looked down upon as just being weak and uncaring. Love, Anna

Yes I have seen a few on drugs Oprah has done. Very well done. I will try to catch the show. People always try to keep it hush hush or just don't want to believe there child is using or addicted for that matter. The heoin epidemic is growing in the teenage population. No one wants to admit that there upperclass thirteen yr old is a heroin addict but they are. Hopefully it will open some of these families eyes to the situation. Alot of homes have both working parents so the children are left raising themselves hence bad judgment turns to addiction. Last show I seen nine yr olds selling the crap and twelve to sixteen using regulally. If I could only play them a tape of my life maybe they would be scared straight. Everyone thinks that want happen to my child. I give them everything they want. Open your eyes you work twelve hours and your husband(if involved) does too. They can't see whats going on. No time to see. I don't blame them with the cost of living they have to work. However look where the new generation is ending up.Then we get these text book councelors. We need them to really understand recovery in order to help an addict. My councelor has had her share I believe that is why she is still my councelor after three yrs. This issue sure does hit a nerve.

I saw the segment about the addiction of a mother. Addicted 20 yrs or more. It was tastefully done but I guess I just didn't like it as much as others she has done. I mean it just wasn't what I expected from oprah...

I listened to it on my way home (87.7 fm). I heard the show when this lady admitted she was an addict. My heart went out to her. Wednesdays show was a follow up. They had some counselors on there as well. Hearing her, I could tell she was new in recovery. Hated goign to meetings. Hated the word Addict. Hated that everyone was hounding her to go to a meeting where she doesn't feel like she fits in. I understood where she was coming from. I thought the most touching part was that her husband has never seen her clean and sober. I agree - this should be done more on TV to help earth people understand. It definately brought me back to where I came from.
