| In alot of pain today...
When I went to detox 3 weeks ago, they discovered I had a cyst on my ovary. They sent me for further tests and I learned that not only do I have a cyst, but it is the size of my ovary. I've been trying to get referred to a real doctor all week so it can be removed. I've had no luck, since my insurance is pending. I may be going to the emergency room because I've heard this can burst and will cause me even greater pain. :crying: I could use some suggestions if anyone knows of the pain I'm in. If I do go to the hospital I will be sure to mention that I'm a recovering addict so they don't "dope me up". A pain med sure would make my physical pain go away, but I can't risk my addiction taking me somewhere else. Please keep me in your prayers today.

I have had good luck with Advil/Motrin or any house brand of the same. I know they sell presciption strength up to 800mg so you can take up to 4 every 4-6 hours. Also Aleve or the house brand is about the same thing but lasts longer (8-12 hours). Again there are prescription strengths to 550mg, I think, so you can double up the over the counter recommendations. Take with some food because they can rough on the tummy. Good luck, JT

Hi Sher, I've had good luck with Advil too. I hope it works for you. There should be a non-addictive pain-killer that you can get in the hospital. I know that us addicts have to be very careful, but pain is no fun. Good luck. Love, Anna |

Advil and Motrin are exactly the same with a different brand name. Save your money. Aleve is a different med altogether. Can a cyst burst?? Have you searched it online?? It seems like if you are that much pain you should attend to it...

Here is some info... Ovarian Follicles, Cysts, and Malignancies ...and everything in between including Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Every woman after puberty gets them. Every gynecologist feels them. Thankfully, most of them don't really matter at all. They are ovarian cysts and while they often strike fear into a woman's mind, it is up to us physicians to tell them when to mind at all. It's important to understand the most common type of ovarian cyst--the follicle. An ovarian follicle is that little cavity that grows an egg set for release at mid-cycle, or ovulation. The ovarian follicle is both a result of and an integral part of the menstrual cycle. It contains a little puddle of fluid that functions in the development of the egg. The release of the egg, called ovulation, is a midpoint in the cycle. If ovulation fails to occur, the rest of the cycle is often suspended or irregular. The follicle is therefore a product of function, a word which will figure importantly below. When a follicle gets to be bigger than about two centimeters or so, semantics dictate that it be referred to as a cyst. That's the difference--semantics. Of course, a cyst can be thought of as an exaggerated follicle, but it is still a matter of normal functioning. Therefore, we speak of theses cysts as "Functional Cysts," and nothing need be done other than wait it out. If a woman has pain from it, or if she doesn't want to wait it out because she's not seeking pregnancy, it can be melted away usually with the temporary use of birth control pills. After all, how do birth control pills work? By suppressing ovulation and therefore the cysts that may develop from it. Waiting, admittedly, can be a bit nerve-wracking, because a period is usually delayed in all of this "functional" confusion. Still, regardless of management, the condition is usually harmless and doesn't require surgery, unless the cyst becomes really huge, bleeds, or twists on itself ("torsion") causing tissue damage. (These conditions can be explored further into this site.) And then there are the rest of the ovarian cysts. Pre-cancerous cysts don't go away with birth control pills, so a failure here may indicate that there's something more dangerous than a functional cyst. This is when gynecologists start discussing laparoscopy to either make a diagnosis or to shell it out, saving the ovary it's in if possible. A test called "CA-125" is a blood test that could raise the index of suspicion if abnormal, although other condtions can yield an abnormal result, like endometriosis. And ultrasound is helpful to indicate whether the cyst is a simple sack (encouraging) or complex (worrisome). Family history also plays a part in how aggressive a doctor may be. If a patient's mother or sister had cancer of the ovary, we worry over any cyst, determined to prove it functional or not. A family history is when things start to get a little creepy, because one out of seventy women will get ovarian cancer; but if a mother had it, a daughter's chances are anywhere between one in twelve to one in twenty. If two close members of her family have it, the chances can get as ridiculously high as one in two to four! No wonder we worry. New laparoscope techniques make surgical cyst management easier on the patient, and good diagnostics can ensure we don't get carried away surgically with mere functional cysts, which are the vast majority of them. But a suspicion of malignancy or even pre-malignancy is never taken lightly and poses one of the most important exclusions of every routine GYN exam.

I would go and go quick to the emergency room. They have to take care of you. They have money for free care. So that they do take care of you twll them your situation about the cyst. Tell them the pain is now so unbearable you cant walk. They will admit you and give you the paper work for free care. Also alot of insurence sompanys with cover 60 days ahead call them and find out if this is true. I wish I had other advise for you sounds to be a scary situation. I will send you my prayers. Don't let it go you could end up infecting your whole body and blood stream if it bursts.

Thank you everyone. I went to the ER and they referred me to a doctor who will treat me. I will call him in the morning. They gave me a tylenol with codene in the hospital, and a script for some motrin 800mg. I am going to take a nap because I feel very goggy. I wouldn't take a script for a whole bottle, can't put that temptation in front of me. I don't want to abuse them. I will let ya'll know how things go with the doctor. Thanks again!

| feeling better I took a long nap, let the codene wear off, took motrin when I woke up and I feel better. I did not like the feeling that pill gave me. Funny, I don't enjoy having my mind or mood altered by drugs. WOW! Did I say that? I would rather have a little pain and my clear thinking today. I love this new way of life. thanks again for all your help everyone. I'm still calling the doc tomorrow, this needs to be surgically removed. don't want it to burst. I'll let ya'll know what becomes of it |

I saw the doctor and he put my mind at ease. He said I've been in all this pain because the cyst already burst and the toxins are being released. He said this is normal and is actually better than having to go to surgery. My pain is not so bad anymore, and supposedly it will go away within the week. He wanted to give me a script for codene, these doctors seem to love to give out pain meds, but I told him that would not be good for my recovery. I'm not taking any chances. I like this new way of life. It's nice to wake up and remember everything I've done! |
