| New Job
After a month looking for work I found work in customer service this week. I am sooo gratefull and equally nervous that I will blow it. I haven't been sober long (3 weeks) and I am feeling emotionally unstable, which is not a desired quality of any employee. I need the confidence to stay calm and do the right thing when customers are pissed off. Any suggestions?

Hi Janine, I also began work at a new job very early on in sobriety. In my case, it was a move from a high-stress job to something I totally love to do. Anyways, it's the best thing I could have done. In fact, it helped keep me on track and has helped me learn more about myself. When customers are pissed off, I would suggest to keep things in perspective. Remember, you're dealing with a customer complaint and you need to do your best, but, your desire to remain sober must always come first. Just shake it off if someone upsets you, breathe deeply, visualize a calm scene or situation and carry on. When you leave work, try to leave it all behind you. You'll do great! Love, Anna |

Just because we are addicts does not meen life does not go on. We have bill to pay. We must eat. I say congrats on the new job. Do the best you can, And by no means stop going to meetings. They will help you keep a handle on your emotions. You will be alright just remember your recovery comes first. Make sure you make meetings even if you have to eat luch at the meetings or you have to go at night. It is so very important to your recovery. I will pray for the control of your emotions and for your strength to continue recovery along with life. It is not easy but you can do it. Hang in there and reward yourself for sticking to it and finding a job. buy yourself an outfit maybe or take yourself and a friend out to eat. I wish u the best.

I can only say ditto to the above. Stick close to your program, talk with your HP. This is a good thing. I remember my first job sober, I was scared to death. But I got through it an so will you. It is an awesome accomplishment, be proud of yourself.

Congrats from me too! I wouldn't stop eyeing those want ads either. If you are not comfortable you can always move on. You have not signed a contract... Hugs and luck, JT
