9 days sober.

But it feels like an eternity!!! I've been trying to adapt to this new lifestyle. The first few days were the hardest because I craved drinking horribly. Ive gotten over that part and dont even crave it anymore. Now its been about attempting to put other activities in the place of drinking. I HATE being around other drunk people while sober. Its funny how drunk people are fun only when im drunk lol. I almost want to slip back into the old life just because it was comfortable and easy. But then I remember how miserable I was.

I miss my old life a little bit and am a little torn. A lot of people tell me "Oh your still young! Have fun!" (im 24). But the thing is I don't want to overcome my problems when I have kids around. I want to overcome them before I have kids. But I also dont want to regret when im 30 saying to myself I didnt have enough fun. Perhaps I should start Salsa Dancing again because I have soo much fun doing that and never drank while dancing. There are so many thoughts running through my head today.

I do feel proud of myself though! Ive done pretty good

Wow, congratulations on 9 days AND for tackling the alcoholism head on at a young age! I had a friend in my old AA group who was 19, his dad was an alcoholic, and he had realized he was one, too.

You're way ahead of me..I'm 50, 5 years into recovery, and wish I had done this years ago, so go you!!!

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Be proud of yourself and don't listen to others. I am going to be 24 in 3 weeks myself and I have found that over the last 4 months (almost 4 months sober) that it no longer bothers me to be around people who are drinking. You will learn to adapt to it and eventaully it won't even bother you.

Thanks! Salsa IS fun! I love it. And its a dance that deters you from drinking cuz...lots of spinning+alcohol=leaning on people, yucky tummy, and ugly dance moves! haha.
