This morning I had to take my beautiful Siamese cat into the vet to be put down. She was 16 1/2 and very sick the last few days. She's been a very special friend to me and my family and I can't believe how broken-hearted I feel. She was an angel. It's such a bad day.

I know the loss of a pet, I am so sorry. When I lost my Scottie dog after 15 years I was given this poem -

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Hi Anna and I know it's difficult to loose a pet especially when we need to take them to the vet for specialized assistance in going to sleep. It's just like loosing a child, but find peace that this kitty received and gave a lot of love and was with you at an even harder time in your life just a few weeks ago. Perhaps he stuck around to make sure you were okay with mom's passing before he was ready to go.

Thanks Paulie and Chy, your kind words really mean so much. And Chy, I know my cat was in my life to help me get through the hard times and to give me so much joy. Animals are wonderful healers because they are non-judgemental.

Oh Anna!! I am so Sooooooo sorry about your cat!

Believe me, I know exactly all the feelings you are going through!! I just lost my Sieberrian Husky about 3 months ago, she was hit by a car! My 6 yr old is still not over that!! She has pics of her & Zoey(dog) hanging up over her bed! But, You should feel so proud of yourself, cause she had YOU to care & Love her & let her live a long life. (16 years is a long life) I know that there's not a whole lot for someone to say to make the pain go away, just know this....You & your cat are in my thoughts & prayers. Butterfly, thanks and sorry about the recent loss of your Husky. She must be so missed by your family. And, yes, Paulie sent me the poem 'Rainbow Bridge' which I'd never seen before. It's so sweet and of course, made me shed a few more tears.

You guys are way too much!

When I left the vet's office yesterday, the receptionist said to me, 'You're going to talk to some people who will think you're foolish for carrying on about an animal, but just ignore them." And, I thought to myself, 'you don't know my friends!'

I'm doing okay. Hubby is away so I'm really feeling the emptiness here, but I'm mostly thinking of all the love my cat and I shared and I'm smiling quite a bit.
