Question Newcomer- HELLO!

Good Evening,

Hello I am new to this site and was pretty much just looking for information and possibly support/advice. I am 22 soon to be 23 and I am trying to figure out if I have a problem... I guess if I am asking I probably do. I have read the alcoholism information and after doing a survey I am still not sure if I am an alcoholic. I dont drink until I am drunk, I dont hurt anyone when I am buzzed and I can still function. I still have a job and take care of all my responsibilities including my one year old but after her birth I have been drinking a 2-4 glasses of wine a day some times 4-5 times a week usually with dinner. I am always craving it each night it seems and soo I guess I do have a problem? I am able to go a week with out drinking but I think about it alot. I hope I haven't offended any of you here but I am just wondering if this sounds like I have a real problem or am heading in that direction? Please advise!

Thanks!

Hello Steffy123 and welcome! I dont have very much experience with alcoholism..I am a loved one of opiate addiction. However I would reccommend reading all the stickys posted and getting as much information about the disease as you can. i would also reccommend maybe attending an alanon meeting. Listen to all the folks in the meeting and perhaps finding someone in the meeting you could sit down and talk to about your concerns. Also, you will find alot of very helpful people on this site. Best of luck and best wishes! V

I think that if you think you have a problem, you probably do. If it's causing worry or problems in your life, then it might be a good idea to stop. It's not how much you drink or what you drink or how often, but is it causing problems in your life?? If so, it's wise to stop it now before it stops you.

Welcome to SR! I'm glad you're here!

Hi Steffy,

Big Welcome!

You aren't offending anyone here, and I think you should consider yourself blessed that you are aware of this problem at this point. Most of us have no clue when we cross over the invisible line of addiction, but there is no going back. If alcohol is affecting you in a negative way (ie consuming your mental energy), then it's a problem. When I tried to control my drinking in a very determined way, I obsessed about alcohol. It was a relief to stop and to clear my mind.

Take a look around and read and learn.

Thanks

Thank you for your responses. It doesn't seem to be negativly affecting me in anyway but the cravings for it tell me I am getting addicted and even though I never get more then buzzed I am tired of the weight I am starting to put on and I dont want to get to the point where people tell me I need to stop drinking so much.
