I was fired almost a year ago from my job of 14 years because of my drinking. I worked as a temp for awhile at a job that paid 1/2 what I was making before. I ended up without a job after a suicide attempt the day after Easter. I am so scared about getting a job again. I don't know what to say in an interview. I have been working on my sobriety during that time since and have been sober more than drunk now. I have been going to AA meetings. My husband is going to al-anon with all women and that is scary for me. I know I need to get past that (not easy). Is anybody else out there struggling to stay sober while dealing with all of this stuff? I know there has to be someone out there.

Hi, There are lots of issues to deal with in early sobriety. I think you should say as little as necessary in a job interview, but not lie. You might say that you were dealing with personal issues and you are anxious to get a job and to move forward with your life. Hopefully that would be enough. If not, and you're asked to be specific, then I think being honest is the only way. It's understandable that you would be nervous about getting a job again. Is it possible to work part-time, or to take a job that is not stressful?

| Well, I'm on my way |
I don't have lots for you here, but remember to hold your head up. I didn't end up losing my job, but came real close. Of course there's fallout from the past. You are succeeding against a difficult adversary with alcohol. Be proud of yourself and your victories. The way you feel about yourself communicates to others more than you know. Good luck.

Try & take things slowly it's early days & it's evident you & your husband have your plate full. I think the least said at a job interview the better, I also think as Anna said if you are pushed then honesty is the way to go. Good luck to you both & keep us posted.
