phone numbers

Hi everyone. I am writing this to save my recovery. I need some help with getting phone numbers or should I say using them. I will start with this, when I got clean this time I got rid of all my using friends, and the only thing wrong with that is I was left with no one. So now for the past 2 years in my recovery I have not had anyone to talk to, exept for a womens group I go to once a week. Don't get me wrong I go to meetings I just don't talk to anyone at them. I speak at the podium but then I leave without any numbers. I think fear is a big part I think if I get hooked up with someone they may relapse and take me with them. I had a sponser with 25 years and I lost her(she descided she wanted one more drink or drug). Anyone know how I can overcome this fear? I am doing so well in my life and don't intend to lose it but I feel I need to comunicate more with other recovering addicts. I have severe trust issues.Please help ........Thanks Much!!!!! Wow...I can sure relate.What worked for me was to bring it up at meetings.Naturally,after I talked about it,people offered numbers.It was easier for me than approaching individuals.Of course,I still had to make the effort to pick up the phone...but at least I had the numbers

I have trust issues too.But when I needed my next fix,I found a way around it.Taking a leap of faith in recovery works much better....it really does

I understand, for a long time I went through this thing where I did not want to give my number to new comers because I felt like crap when they would relapse, I did not want to sponsor anyone for the same reason.

Obviously, I had to do some work around this area. It is not easy to pick up the phone and call someone that you don't know. today, I love when that phone rings and it is someone that I gave my number to at a meeting, it gives me a chance to work on my recovery, not just help someone else. I understand that today and I love it. Think of it that way, you are sharing with someone else, helping them too.

If someone is going to relaspe they are going to relapse, there is nothing I can do to stop that. If they are going to take me with them, then I was going to do it anyone, with or withouth them eventually.

Use the numbers, I promise, you will feel better.

Hi Bubblz,

Welcome to a great place and congrats to you on your recovery. In regards to your question is there anyone at the womens meeting you can talk to ? Anyone you relate to? If so just ask for her number! You'll find a big relief when they give it to you willingly and it may help you break out of the shell. I can so relate!

I am having some trouble with getting numbers from the ladys in my womens group. See it is mandatory for me to go. Well not really I go by choice but most of the others were forced so they are not exactly clean they say they are. I just cant afford to hang out with them any longer t5hen I have too. Sometimes it takes all I can just to attend the meeting itself... I did however go to a noon time meeting and went up to the podium and ask for numbers. I walked out with 10 numbers so thank you for your surport. I will be clean another 24 hours thanks to the surport of these boards.........
