| Newcomer - Drug Addict - Needs a 'Straight' Friend
Hi all - I'm new to this board but I'm going to dive right in here - lord knows I need all the help I can get! I am addicted to mj in a bad kinda way. Ya know, I didn't used to think the mj was addicting - you don't hear stories like you do about coke and all that. Well, I don't desire the coke nearly as much as the mj!! I have been using every day for about 7 years now. I need to quit. I want to quit. I don't know how to quit! There are no NA meetings in my area (only AA where they announce the topics are only alcohol related!) so I'd like to rely on someone/something to listen to me and help me through this horrible ordeal. I'm in a dead end job and can't go anywhere because I can't even pass a urine! I feel pathetic. Thanks for listening.

Hi and welcome - I am glad you found us, SR is a great place for friendship and support. Personally, my belief is that addiction is addition, the substance does not matter. I drank until I tried speed and then I didn't drink any more, I just used speed. I attend AA and NA meetings. At the AA meetings where they do not want me to talk about drugs, I don't I just refer to my using as my addiciton. In my area there are some AA meetings that mind and some that don't. Try to find meetings, try different ones, ask people when you are there. Meetings and the 12 steps saved my life, that is what I recommend to others. Open your phone book and call your local NA and AA hotline and see if they can help direct you in the right way. And keep coming back here, others will be along soon to offer support and help for you also. Again, welcome and I am glad you found us. I fyou have not already done it hop on over to the NA forum and do some reading in the Power Post section at the top. There is some great stuff there.

Hi Jo and Welcome! Though I am an alcoholic, like Pauline said addicition is addiction. There is a great family of support here and so many struggling with your addiction you will find you can relate to. Keep scrolling through the various forums and seek out the help you need. You will find it! Though the AA rooms seem to be alcoholic in nature they work for people struggling with various drug addictions as well, and the program is the same. Glad you found us and hope to see you back. Just a thought you can start getting clean by trying to go just ONE day without and then try again. You will succeed if you really want to, and I do know it's hard but possible! |
