Gained Weight

How many of you gained weight while you were drinking?

How many lost when you stopped.

Hmm, I actually lost weight during the last year of my drinking and became too thin.

The sugar in the alcohol killed my appetite and I became less and less healthy.

I quickly regained the ten or so pounds I had lost.

First time I stopped, I lost weight. I was small to begin with, but I two weeks in, I dipped below a hundred pounds.

The last time, I gained twenty pounds in rehab. I gave up Mt. Dew when I got home and the weight came back off. I'm now within a pound or two of what I was when I graduated high school 22 yrs. ago.

Peace & Love,
Sugah

I had a variety of health issues that were related or agravated by my drinking. As a combination of these things I gained 50 lbs. Then the last 6 months of my drinking I lost 75 and was underweight and sickly when I went to rehab.

Been sober a year and my weight is still bouncing some...but am staying in a fairly healthy range.

I was in reverse.
Lost tons at the end of my drinking (looked like a junkie)
Then when I got sober within a year I was buy clothes in the + section.
It took awhile to get down to an average weight.
I also tend to chunck on the weight when I am in a relationship and unhappy.

Most of the posts have me feeling fat. I was yellow as a canary and 120lbs when I drank. Now, I am unable to fit in clothes that were loose and baggy. My last wt check at the doctors office I gained 60, yes I said 60, pounds.
I cannot put down the jelly beans and rocky road. Better fat and happy then drunk and sloppy!

I was a total wreck. I lost a ton of weight because I stopped eating. I was miserable. I existed on alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, benzos., sudafed, and that's about it. Ugh! It was a nightmare. I was slowly killing myself.

Now, with 3+ years of solid sobriey, I've put on quite a bit of weight, because I've been focusing on my "spiritual life". So I've just started an exercise and healthy eating plan so I can get back into good physical shape. It's only been 3 weeks and I'm feeling healthier and skinnier already!

LOL the crack diet!

I gained 15 pounds this last year having quit smoking cigs... Sucks, but I am pushing 40 and maybe this is just the way it is. I exercise a bit and have no intention of giving up the chocolate or fries that I love...

That above saying about "fat and happy rather than drunk and sloppy"... You got that right lady!

I have drank for so long I don't know what I would have weighed had I not been drinking. But within three months of quitting I lost 20 lbs. So there is something to look forward to.

I def gained weight when I was drinking. I've lot about 12 pounds and close to where I was when I had my babies since stopping. But, I don't focus on the scale (can't remember the last time I stepped on one) I go by how my clothes fit.

I'm a really crappy eater and am trying to get better with that. I have to force myself sometimes when I don't have the kids with me.

I've lost about 25 pounds in the year or so I've been off alcohol, without any form of diet or exercise. I actually think I eat more. There are a lot of calories in 1-2 bottles of wine per day!

I've lost weight....and I've gained weight....and lost...and gained. I can't really identify one particular thing, but over the years I'm sure I've lost weight when I was using coke (and dad gum I was hot in that leather and lace...lol...ugh...my mother saw me in that get-up), gained weight when I was smoking pot and drinking, lost weight when I was exercizing like crazy, gained weight when I was not. I've actually NOT gained weight lately while I've not been exercizing much because I'm so focused on being somewhat fit (or not fat) for knee surgery, but I'm not eating much either. So maybe that's losing a little bit of weight while not eating. It's crazy, this whole "managing the physique/physuque ratio" thing.

Alcohol ruined my stomach and my appetite. But the beer put the belly on, that is for sure. Now that I've quit, my appetite is back. I'm a little too happy to be eating again, so I need to cut down on the sweets.

I never touched sweets when I was drinking and passed up desserts for years.
My weight went down right after I quit but it seems to be going up. Seems like there is quite a spectrum here regarding weight and alcohol use or abstinance....

Well, I gained a lot of weight while drinking. Also -I am now on anti- depressants, so, there goes that. Haven't lost any of it -- but haven't been trying too hard.
