| The Long Climb | It's not supposed to be like this!
I want to drink so badly that I don't trust myself to go out of the house. I have no groceries, but because I live in a small town and the liquor store is inside the only grocery store I can get to, I won't go buy food. Today, I'm hungry and craving - BAD COMBINATION. I'm far enough into recovery that I shouldn't be feeling like this. This is almost as bad as the withdrawal I fought way back when..... I'm keeping busy. I'm trying to use the tools. But, my work has been very hard (a few nights this week I've left in tears), my relationship is sinking, my elderly cat is sick and will likely die in the next couple of weeks...I just want to drink it all away. I'm not looking for advice. But if you'd like to send me food, that would be much appreciated |

Aww, rae. (((HUGS))) I'm so sorry you're feeling like this. Do you have any places that deliver food? Pizza or anything at all? Any fast food places you could go to that aren't near the alcohol store? Prayers and strength going out to you, sweetie! :praying

Oh Ray, I'm sorry. But, I don't think you should go without food. Is there someone who can go to the grocery store for you or with you? There were times when I used to close my eyes going by the wine aisle in the supermarket, but I wouldn't go without food. ![]() I hope you feel better. |

You're right Anna - I can't go without food. That'll only make things worse. Suki, what a good idea! I will order in! There's only a pizza place that'll deliver this far out in the sticks, and it'll cost me. But why shouldn't I treat myself on a saturday night after the week I've had. I'm going to eat and there's NO way I'll get sidetracked! I feel better already! |

| "Welcome To The Future..." | Rae, Bless your heart sweetie! You'll be okay. Sounds like it's been one of those horrible weeks that happen now and again, sometimes more often than we would like! You must eat though! That pizza sounds delish, btw! Just a little pointer, here, going without food could just make you more depressed and more likely to succumb to those cravings! So make sure you get plenty of nourishment! As far as cravings go, they seem to stick around long after withdrawal. Been having them quite a bit myself lately, so I feel for you. They usually do pop up in times of stress which sounds like you've had plenty of lately! Try to stay busy with things that bring you enjoyment. It will help those awful cravings to subside. So sorry about your dear old kitty! I have a special place in my heart for animals of all kinds, but kitties mean the most to me. I had to say goodbye to my 17 y/o siamese last year, and I swear I miss her like a sister still yet. Here are some flowers for you and a candle I will light for your dear kitty! May you feel much better tomorrow! Love, butterfly19 ![]()

| ![]() There's nothing quite like chocolate to make one's life complete! Seriously, Try to find someone to go to the store with you once a week or every few weeks. Make an afternoon of it on a Sat. Afterwards, cook dinner for them, doesn't have to be anything fancy. Burgers on the grill are always fun and then maybe rent a movie together while you're out. Don't forget H.A.L.T. Hungry, Angry, Lonley and Tired. These are four no no's to avoid if at all possible in Recovery. Remember that we're here for you. . . always. Hugs and Prayers, Judy

Rae, I know life gets tough sometimes. But you can do it! You can do Hard! But you need to eat. You've not had a drink for a long time and you don't want to go down that road again.....you know that. Those little voices come and say "come on, just one more time for old times sake. It won't hurt, you can stop again." Say NO! Stop those thoughts. You are in charge, you really are. But EATTTTTTT! I quit drinking over 20 years ago and boy did I have a problem. I can't even remember my life drinking anymore. I have the memories but my life is so different now that there is NO way I would ever consider drinking again. This is a challenge but you can overcome it. Prove it to yourself and you'll get a kick out of yourself.... Linda Joy Allan Author of "I Quit! Cigarettes, Candy Bars & Booze" |
