So every Friday the people I work with go out for drinks. EVERY FRIDAY they find some excuse to pour the booze down their throats. Well, most know I am in A.A. so they dont ask me anymore but then a girl asked me this morning, "Why dont you ever go out with us?" So I told her, " I am a recovering alcoholic". Instead of leaving it at that and accepting it she goes into, "Well you dont have to drink, you can just come with us. I know when I get out of here I sure need a nice cold drink to take the edge off". A-U-G-H, why do that to me? And why go into describing it to me? I told her that wouldnt be a good idea to put me in that situation especially right now and walked away. Some people just dont get it! I am not pissed off at her but I am totally seeing my own resentments against alcohol right now and I need to shake it off, I hate feeling like that. Just needed to vent. Thanks. |

jem - I deal with people like that all the time....they just don't get it and never will. You are right, you just need to shake it off and venting helps, I do it all the time LOL!!! We do what we have to do to protect ourselves and going to places like are not good for us. I used to work at a company like that it was called 5:05 cause every friday night at 5:05 the COMPANY supplied the beer and wine in the lunch room. That was in the 80's and boy did I enjoy it then. Then one day someone thought "hey maybe we shouldn't be supplying booze to our employees before the DRIVE home on Friday nights ...duh...and the 5:05's stopped. Take care of you first.!!!

Hey Jem! I dont know why people do that. Misery loves company I guess! I know I am nervous about this coming weekend. We are going out of town with out our 3 kids for some softball tournaments. Well the crowd is kind of a drinking crowd, and while I feel comfortable being around them, I hate the questions. I just wish people would mind their business! You know though, my mom said that maybe when you do say something about being a recovering alchoholic, that you can actually plant the seed for someone who may look for recovery in the future. Who knows? In any case, I guess our not drinking makes people who drink take a look at their own habits. That is what I think makes people uncomfortable! Ya did good my friend! LG |
