| managing a bit better this fortnight
well, the first few days that I tried it felt really really hard. I was shocked at how much of my routine it had become. Then I went two weeks....oh eck it felt long. That REALLY shocked me. I was thinking of beer and wine all the time. Now I am approaching two weeks again (I know it is not long....but it is for me ) and this two weeks has been easier. I was tempted.....there are beers in the fridge and my new med isn't doing much to help me sleep...but instead I am going to bed early to read. Hubby watching football. Maybe thats what I will be like??? A little longer and a little longer....but then if I accept that, then it is like saying that it is ok to go 3 and then 4 etc etc..... The long and short of it is, I feel good that I have broken the routine, as opposed to a habit. Like when I go shopping I am bypassing the wine aisle. Guess what else? My hubby and I had cash LEFT over on pay day! No red letters, no overdraft! Shows how much we were spending eh? He is also being more supportive and drinking much less, not stopped altogether, he likes his beer for the football, but to be fair I don't sit with him when it is on. AND!!!He went to the shops for it himself. Hippy |

It sounds like you're doing great hippy! I think it's good to pay attention to the changes that are happening within you and around you while going through recovery.

I'm trying to stay positive, and I love your post. Right now, I HATE recovery. I HATE being different from my friends. I'm not being positive. Thanks for what you wrote. It helps.

Hi Hippy, Well done, breaking the routine is as hard as breaking the habit. The best thing that happened to me was when Sainsbury's rearranged the shop and they moved the drinks section - I had to relearn the layout of the shop without the drinks part .I know how hard it can be when there is a match on, I feel like I'm the only person in the country not drinking lager. But I must say I enjoy watching a match with only one ball and 22 players, instead of 2 or 3 balls and a whole army. Anyway, Hippy, if in the future you find it hard when everyone's going soccer mad, you can always send me a message and I'll get in touch. You're doing really well, sobriety takes time, work and care for yourself. Contact anytime if you want. |
