| Unable to seek outside help - alternatives needed?
I spent approx 1/2 yr in AA rooms. I wasn't always sober... but I did reach my 90 in 90.. it was an experience that changed my life that I eventually resented and left the rooms. Now many years later, I find I might want to go back... but I have a young child that I can not leave with anyone. My local AA's told me of one group that said the welcomed children... I made it through the lobby, took a look into the meeting room and left. It was a small group of older men and, well.. my toddler is 'active'. That trip took a lot out of me, I had worked up the nerve after almost a year of knowing about that group... and the reason for that is that I'm deathly afraid of anyone questioning my Mothering abilities and taking that issue up with authorities... is there anyone else struggling with sobriety that is unable to find that support we need due to this type of fear? Does anyone have any reasonable alternatives? I look forward to your responses. Thanks |

Hi Love, I am glad you are seeking help here. There is a good support system and usually someone is around for you to talk to. SR is my lifeline. You can always PM people too. I imagine there are some difficulties in taking a child to meetings. I have heard other people talk about and their opinions vary. This is a list of recovery programs and you can always come here to be inspired and to learn: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-programs.html (Recovery Programs)

hi - SR is my lifeline as well. I work graveyard shift, and can't always manage the extra haours awake required to make it to all the local meetings. Certain health issus have stopped me lately, as well. SR - is becoming my home group! again - welcome!

Hi Loveforink, I'm glad you posted. I'm on my own with a daughter, but she's nearly 12, so it's become easier to get to meetings. It wasn't always that way. I understand not being able to take a toddler to a meeting, because even though they are 'welcome', lets face it, they are active and sometimes disruptive. This website has been a Godsend for me - my daughter doesn't like being left alone after dark, so I can't get to any evening meetings right now, and I work days, so this is where I come, and I connect with others by phone and email. There are other women here who I connect with frequently through instant message, email, and talking on our microphones from across the world. My email and user names are on my profile if you click on my name - you are welcome to contact me at any time. I'm glad you posted. Rowan
