Smile Got my 30 day chip!

Today is day 33 for me. Last night I got my 1 month chip. People kindly clapped for me and gave me hugs and handshakes. It was so nice!

There were two ladies at the meeting who were celebrating 17 years and 29 years of sobriety. Wow! One thing that stuck with me is that one of them said that even though they have been sober for so long, it's still one day at a time just as it is for newcomers.

You know when I was new I heard people with time say that and it discouraged me too. But today I am blessed to have 12 years sober and I understand exactly what that means. In early recovery I thought that it would get easier, I thought that one day I would not have to go to meetings or have to work the steps. But today I realize it is a gift to have to go to meetings and to haveto work the steps. The program is the gift, it is the solution, it is not the punishement like I used to think it was.

Once I accepted not just taking staying clean one day at a time, but taking life one day at a time my life became so much better.

Today I say the same thing that the people you heard last night. It is just one day at a time. Even with 12 years, I still have to stay in today. I still NEVER say I will NEVER use again. I have been around long enough to hear people say NEVER and now they are dead from using/drinking.

One day at a time simply means living life simple, taking it simple.

Congrats again on your 33 days....keep up the great work, one day at a time

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! Congratulations on your 30 days.

Yep, I understand what your co-celebrators were talking about . . . . even when we're sober for any length of time, all we really have is today . . . . and that's all we have with regard to any part of our lives.
