| I hate shopping!!!
And I really despise buying myself shoes.Partly because they don't make many sneakers in styles I like(hi tops) for women. And partly because I hate spending money on myself I try to convince myself that I deserve a decent pair of shoes. But when it comes to actually getting them,I keep ending up with cheap ones.I resent feeling like I have to settle for a pair that I don't like that well, because it's all I can find in my size.I end up buying smaller size men's hi tops because they feel better than the low ones in womens. The selection bites My kid asked me why I don't go to Foot Locker or the shoe store at the mall.Well...hon...because I can't afford it ![]() The really dumb thing is that I bought a steam cleaner for my carpet and another gallon of paint, and some cool stuff for my kid.But when it comes to spending money just on me...I hate it. Yes...I'm griping...sorry. Secretly I wish they made shoes for grown ups like they do for kids.I want light up shoes with Tigger on them ![]() phoenix

Well, I don't hate shopping but I do hate shopping for shoes. I love to wear sneakers but we aren't allowed to wear them at work anymore. They came out with a new dress code. I have embraced the dress code for clothing (I secretly love to dress up) but I still hate the shoe part. I would love a pair of light up sneakers too.....perhaps with Barbie on them......lol Many hugs, Debbie |

Well you guys don't have to worry, you're friends with someone who would rather go shopping for shoes than, well, lots of stuff. I am damn good at it too. The only thing is I have the opposite problem but that's a whole other post. Don't even go near footlocker at the mall. Is there anyone who could afford it? There are great places to buy real quality shoes at an affordable price. Retail is not for the shopping enthusiast. I pride myself on finding a pair of Steve Maddens for $10. Actually Phoenix, high tops are coming back. I think you'll be quite surprised when you go look. But don't go to a sports store. People aren't wearing hightops for playing tennis or running so foot locker is out. Go to a store like TJ MAX or Walmart. You could probably find a cool pair for a lot cheaper. Payless also.....they may even have light up Barbies.....

I actually tend to go to payless. I don't think I've been to a shoe store in a mall in at least 15 years. I can usually find something affordable there. I think I just don't like shoes so the Imelda Marcus' of the world don't have to worry about me ![]() I need light up barbies in my size......sigh......if only....... ![]() Maybe I could send you shoe shopping for me Steph.....if you ever see those light barbies in big girl sizes, you will need to let me know |

Please do. Actually I've been busy tracking my course to get the most mileage out of my trip. I figure i'de hit Philie first and do your shoe shopping and then get to Phoenix's that evening for anther round. Ever since I had kids though, my new obsession is toys r us. I think I have more fun playing with the toys than they do

Phoenix - finally - another woman who hates shopping! We sound like two peas in a pod. I always spend money on other things or other people before myself and end up feeling kinda guilty when I DO buy myself something. BTW, it's a nightmare trying to find a shoe I like in my size - my shoe size is 9 1/2 and I'm 5' 3" - how about you?

Shop on the internet!!! It's fun to get a package in the mail and you don't have to go to the stores.

![]() I was buying Native American dolls and Grateful Dead stuff and CDs and bike parts.... I think I will return the shoes and try again with new resolve...and no kiddo in tow. It's hard to think when that little voice is making suggestions and asking if each pair is the one i want :bojo: I did find a really cute t-shirt.It's white with Tinkerbell on the front and back. The front is a close up and says "Mighty Sassy". On the back she is in pout mode and it says,"I won't..I won't..I won't do it your way!" Nine bucks...I hadda have it. If only it came with matching shoes... ![]() phoenix

Phoenix - I want one of those too!!! Next time you go into a shoe store, keep saying to yourself over and over: I CAN buy nice shoes for me, I CAN buy nice shoes for me...

Shopping is an awful experience for me too. Too many choices, not enough money. I always feel bad about myself after going to the mall! Everything is so expensive. If the shop has dim lighting and soft music, I know to stay away because it's going to be really expensive. If it's loud and bright, I'm probably too old for anything they're selling. All the people drive me nuts and I tend to spend hours looking around, trying things on under lighting that seems to add 10 years and a few dress sizes and come out with nothing for myself. I love shopping for other people though. I do like factory outlets, and $2 shops, and sales, and charity shops. My absolute favourites are flea markets and garage sales. I get a high from finding something I want really cheap. Amy |

JT, we have a Nine West outlet at the beach in Delaware where we go in the summer sometimes. It's my favorite part of the whole trip....and on top of it, there's no sales tax is Delaware. Only 10 pair huh, well if you're missing one of the essentials then you're going to have to go get it. I mean it's capri season and it's all about the shoes. God, I sound like....like.... and NO this is not a continuation story, I just can't think of the word.

The mall is just a set up to lure us into their clutches. It really should be against the law Do you guys have Marshalls over there or Target? They just opened an Ann Taylor Loft over here. I haven't decided if it's a scam yet. The Ann Taylor Outlet is much cheaper.

We have Target & K-Mart and someone mentioned Payless, we have that (I don't mind shopping there). Our more expensive dept. stores are Myer and David Jones. They're the ones with the dim lighting. If you come in at the wrong entrance, you're ambushed by perfume-spraying women and sometimes they're armed with makeup brushes, you have to be pretty quick to get past without a confrontation Amy |

Hi. My names Jon and I'm a shop-a-holic. And though I realize this is WIR, I couldn't help myself. Just like in the malls. It started innocently enough, when i began a short-lived career in retail working women's shoes at Macy's. Great commission. Great employee discount. Soon, they made me a manager (damn over-achieving alky!) and with it came an even better discount. At the time, an old, weathered retail-lifer who worked Polo took me under his wings. In effect, he said, "One 55.00 white button down Polo will outlast and outlook 3 20.00 white shirts from anywhere else." He's right, you know. And while working womens shoes I learned some horriffic lessons about womens feet. Take care of them NOW. PLEASE. I won't go into detail, but if it's not leather and it's not comforatble, forget it. Just forget it. You do not want me describing some of these feet... Anyway, after becoming name-brand obsessed, I had to get creative. I simply could not afford name brands at retail. Marshalls and TJ Max are my saviors, and I usually buy from the clearance section ONLY. All name brands, sometimes at 60-80% less than retail and they last twice as long. Shoes, too. Nike, Skechers, Johnston and Murphy (130.00 shoes on clearance for 39.00). And phoenix? Chuck Taylor Converse hi-tops, womens sizes, right here: http://www.converse.com/zproductmatr...=2&zsubcatid=4 So, now that you know way to much about my shopping habits, I think I'll head for the Outlet Mall. I can spend the whole day without buying a thing and have a blast. I think it's that sensory-overload feeling or sumpin'... But theres nothing like a car full of bags. And while I also cook, design and sometimes even clean, don't even think about it. Straight as an arrow...lol
