| Member | I give up on sleeping tonite.
I had a rough day yesterday. I spent the afternoon in the ER at an innner-city hospital. What a disaster that was. I was having very bad chest pains, pains down my entire left side (from my chest, up my shoulder, down my arm, my back and my leg), I felt nauseas, and disoriented. They hooked me up to all the normal gadgets, it took 7 stabs to get an IV run. Then they put Nitro under my tongue. Soon I started to feel weird, and got this instant blasting headache. Then they gave me more, which made it worse. For the next 2 or 3 hours I was ignored. They never even checked my blood pressure after they gave me the nitro. I was trying to get something for the headache, but no response, Steve ran around trying to get me a pillow and a blanket, no luck. Finally after 6 hours, I signed myself out AMA. The doctor said he thought it might be muscle pain in my chest, but he can't explain the rest of the symptoms. I will take it easy this weekend, see what happens, and call my cardiologist on Monday for an appointment. Meanwhile, I have had a hard time sleeping all night.

Blood! you gotta bleed to get attention in those intercity ER's. That was my experience in D.C. hospitals. I am sooo sorry for your discomfort and glad you will be seeing your doctor.

Hun, I hope everything gets better. I have had something like what u have gone thru happen. I went to the doc, cuz I gained what I thought was 30 lbs in less then 2 month, which I found out there, it was actually 49.5, I almost **** my pants!!!! They did every test, and she said, it is stress, stress can do horrible stuff, and said to stop eating soooo much and start exercising. I get a call 4 days later, saying that my thyroid was messed up, I had hypo. And that I needed an ultrasound, that came back, they found a mass of tissue in my uterus, and they have to do more testing to see if it is cancer and maligment. Anyways, another time, I went to a women doc, and told her that I had a yeast inf. cuz I have had that happen many times. She wouldn't believe me and did everything else that was very painful. She put that acid stuff on, saying it might be a std. At the end she told me that I was making it up. Her nurse called the next day and told me it was a yeast infection. I hate docs, and they get paid soooo much. So make sure u get a sec. opin. k! And keep posting so we know how u are doing!!!

I was just talking to a friend, and we had a conversation about the way man and woman are treated soooo differently when they go to the emergency room for chest pain. Men get rushed right back, and it's automatically assumed it's a heart attack. Women, get blown off as having an anxiety attack. Before they even did my EKG, the technician said to me "I'm betting it's nothing more than anxiety". Right from the word jump they blew me off. I have a good cardiologist, and I will see him next week.

namommy, I hope you're OK. I could not agree more with the gender bias on cardiac symptoms. My mother died from a heart attack. She had all the symptoms and was not taken seriously enough. I am betting if I went in with the exact same symptoms they would treat it much more seriously, even though I am 28 years younger than Mom (if she were still around). Anyways I hope you're OK and be sure and let us know how it goes.

It is sooooo true, they think that it is a "women" thing! And even at resteraunts, when I go with a g-f, they don't fill up my drink or anything, with a b-f, they are always right there, even men! It is almost the same in some ways as the 50's or so. But I guess, it doesn't change things, the world will always be the same!
