| hello & pardon me
Hello ladies, I'm new to this board as of yesterday, and didn't realize that I probably should introduce myself before I started responding to other women's posts. Please accept my apologies if I offended anyone by doing so. Sometimes I do that IRL too without realizing it - I jump into conversations without introducing myself. My social skills aren't the best, that's definitely a shortcoming of mine that I continue to work on. It's a miracle that I've been sober more than 10 years now and my life is really really different from what it was when I first came in - so much has happened in 10 years. There have a been a few times when I felt dangerously close to taking a drink but I didn't, thanks to my HP. There was a breast cancer scare, my father's illness and subsequent death, several car accidents & 3 totalled vehicles, a long-term relationship that didn't go the way I wanted, plus I put myself through college, and now I'm a new grandmother. Life happens and today I get to show up in it and be responsible for my thoughts, words & actions. It's such a blessing to be sober. Over the last few years I've not been going to many face2face meetings, partly b/c of my school schedule and partly cuz I'm lazy. I'm glad to have this board to fill in the void. I'm moving to the Portland Oregon area in a couple weeks & want to reconnect to the fellowship & meet some new people. Do any of you know of good women's meetings up there? That's all I have for now, thanks for being here & listening.

Nice to meet you Blankethog.. Your post made me realize that I don't think I ever introduced myself here. :eek I think I just jumped on in! Welcome anyway and sounds like a great 10 years of life happening for you clean and sober! Portland is getting more than it's share of snow and rain this year.. maybe you'll need a couple more blankets to hog? Sorry the emoticons are not working for me where I am... ordinarily I would give you a big heart hug but the words will have to do! Again welcome and looking forward to getting to know you on the message board.

Welcome and I'm glad you found us. It sounds like things are going pretty well for you, considering all life's ups and downs. I wish you a good move to Oregon. I hope you can still stay connected to SR and to your new friends here. |

It's great to see a new member...Welcome! 10 years was a huge turning point for me too. That is when I absolutely knew I could continue to grow and stay in recovery. Good Luck with your move...

| thank you
Ah, my thanks to all of you for giving me such a warm welcome - I appreciate that. And please, no kudos are due; ten years took a day at time, just like any one else of us is doing ... ya know, there's a saying around here that the person in the room with the most time is the one who woke up earliest that day ... Yeah, right now things are going pretty good .. just about finished with all my school-related stuff (I grade papers for one of the professors so I'm finishing up his final exams), and then I get to pack my apartment. What fun. But I am looking forward to the move despite the muscle strain required ... :Weightlif Thanks again for the warm welcome, you're awesome ladies!

Hi, blankethog, I'm new, too, as of today. I work about 35 miles SW of Portland, but that puts me far enough away from the metro area that I don't really have my finger on the pulse of what's happening there.
