Mammograms................. My sister's lumpectomy came back positive for cancer. She's only 40 years old. Due to her young age and not being menopausal, the oncologist has recommended six months of chemotherapy and radiation to prevent relapse. She will lose her hair and become nauseous during this time only. Not doing the combination of chemo and radiation would not be a good thing for her. She will have to wait on having children for about two years. I am beside myself, I dont want to see my sister in pain - I never did. I am scheduled for my mammogram tomorrow morning..I am ready I suppose for whatever cards are dealt to me...I really have no idea what to expect out of the next six months nor out of my mammogram tomorrow.. the fact that my sister has breast cancer puts me at a higher risk. Life is full of unexpectancies....I'll just need to deal with things one day at a time..and hope to get a good support system under my belt during my sister's chemo and whatever esle life throws my way. My stepfather's prostrate has not spread and therefore he will only need minor surgery. Thank God for that. That's the latest, dependng on my results tomorrow of my mammogram, you will either hear from me or not... but I guess at some point I will communicate with all soon. Thank you for all of your support during these very trying times. peace to all...Longlivediva. |

Hi Diva, I am sorry for the bad news your sister has had to face. It will be a tough road for her, but hopefully it will pay off in the end, with good health. You are at increased risk, but that doesn't mean you will get breast cancer. You are lucky that you have been made aware of this and can keep up to date with your mammograms. Please let us know how you are doing.

Prayers for the two of you as you go thru these hard times. I have had a "pea" lump for 30 years get mamograms and sonagrams regularly. I can not stress often enough how important they are...thanks for the reminder. I also do Pap's on schedule...at 29 and again when I was 39 the Pap caught adnormal cells. I realize how scared you are but the only way out is facing the enemy. BTW..I am 70 and cancer free.

| 42 year old and her 40 year old sister - biopsy results
Carol Indigo and Anna, thank you so much for your words of support.....the results of my mammgram are fine, but I insisted on a sonogram and I will get my sonogram next week. My sister's lymph node biopsy results are cancer free! We were ecstatic! but now she fears that she will become infertile if she has chemo and radiation and thus we are looking to have her eggs frozen before she starts chemo and radiation, for goodness sake she's only 40! we had a moment of happiness and pure bliss when the fertility subject came to surface. Please keep us in your prayers....Longlivediva...
