Lonely, afraid and scared........

When I found sober recovery I was in the middle of realizing that my husband had a serious problem with alcohol. Every night I could look forward to being shut out, abused verbally and left feeling unwanted and unloved. I went online to see who else might be in my situation and how they were handling it. To my surprise, there were PLENTY of people in my shoes and they were right here, on Sober Recovery. I began reading and posting and going to Alanon meetings and slowly recognizing what my part in the situation was and how I could focus on ME and not what he was doing to me. Ultimately I ended up giving him an ultimatum, either quit drinking or I leave and we made an agreement that he would quit drinking. He stopped for a while and then two months later, he started up again and told me that I was unreasonable for telling him that he needed to quit.......I left. Last year was a year from hell but I stood my ground even through all of the accusations that I was an abandoner and a horrible wife for leaving him and so on and so on. We are divorced and he is still miserable and drinking and for me, I cant tell you how happy I am now - REALLY - and I have Sober Recovery, Alanon and all of the brave men and women on here to thank for that!!! So, to anyone in a situation living with an alcoholic, hang in there, be good to yourself, give Alanon a try and put yourself first!!

Good job for taking care of yourself. That is awesome that your life has improved for the better. Remember for someone to be an alcoholic there is generally at least one other person enabling it.

Flip side, without all the wasted cash on alchol, you can do lots of truly fun and worthwhile things!
