That Weekend

It was Friday afternoon. The usual time for me to freely stop work and start the weekend binge which I did. I woke up on Sunday morning with the usual hangover, feeling sick and shaking, hardly able to walk. I made a coffee and switched my PC on, collected my mail and sat looking at the screen for some time just staring and all I felt was lost sick and tired, I knew the nightly bottle of wine and the weekends of drinking, blackouts and hangovers was killing me as I had been through this before with morphine.

I did a search for info on AA and found SR. I signed up read a lot of posts, made a decision to quit drinking there and then a pledge to myself. I made a few posts and got dressed contacted my best friend and told him at length what had been going on for the past six years. He was shocked but was and still is very supportive.

Its 15 weeks sober today for me and since then I have sorted out many things in my life and continue working on others like the debts and the house that is only 3/4 built and have great work now. I have told all of my friends and family what is going on and have enlisted there support. I attend meetings at least 3 a week and often 5 or 6, I post and read here every day, my health is much better, I would not say I am fit but am much fitter tha I was.

Most of the time I am happy now and my favourite time of the day is the mornings, waking up feeling fresh and relaxed with a skip in step as my feet hit the floor it feels great, great to be alive

Best of all I like myself and recently have begun to love myself and have also met someone recently, so after 15 years alone or in degrading relationships there is HOPE for me there too.

I love SR and every one that uses this forum. Thanks Jon for the board and thanks to all of you for giving me my life back.

Kevin
