When I first found SR

I dont mean this to be any knock on this forum as a disclaimer because it was a big part of my initial period of abstinence. But honestly, that's all it afforded me. There was really no accountability other than the ability to reach out and discuss my problems with other people in recovery.

It wasnt until I found the rooms of AA/NA and really went "all-in" that my true recovery process began.

I found a sponsor, a temporary sponsor, and then another, and now I am on my 3rd sponsor in 5+ months as I continue to seek someone who I feel comfortable working my program with for an extended period of time.

But as I continue to work the steps of the program, continue to read the program literature, and attend meetings on a regular basis, I have found the urge to use drugs and alcohol has all but disappeared. I truly see the blessings of life by staying clean and sober and involving God's will in my everyday life.

It's now, with 5+ months clean and sober that I find myself returning to this forum on my down time in order to share my experience, strength, and hope with the newcomers of this forum, because I know I have been there before.
---------------------------------------

A bit on my background. I am 27 years old and I was a hardcore heroin addict. I used on a daily basis and heroin had cost me everything in my life. Many times over. I was attending college at a major university, had nice things, and good women in my life. I managed to lose all of that. I then relocated to the other side of the country, managed to get clean for 3-4 months, without working a program, only to fall back into the grips of addiction.

I was a very very sick person who came to terms with the fact that I was going to be a criminal and a drug addict for the rest of my life. I didnt realize that I could legitimately live a clean and sober life.
---------------------------------------

That's my story in a very abbreviated version, but I feel it sums things up fairly well. I am available for any questions, feedbacks, or whatever. Feel free to ask. I dont get on the internet but every few days, so I will respond when I can
