Post The Reason I Picked This Forum

Good Morning Family, My name is Isabel and I am definintely an alcoholic/addict; among other things. The reason I picked this forum is because, when I first went to treatment in 1996, my counselors told me Recovery starts when I leave treatment. I wouldn't let my mind hear that."After these 28 days of treatment I'm going to be cured." I said. After coming and going in AA/NA I developed some knowledge and used that to get by and tell people what they wanted to hear so they can leave me alone and get off my back. I put my self in a lot of misery and unnecessary emotional pain. Today, I'm willing to open my mind and get butt ass naked honest with myself. My alcoholism and addictions were only symptoms. After doing a couple of 4th steps I seen my wrongs and looked at Isabel. I read my character defects and say the 7th step time to time. I practice not doing my old behaviors that leads me to drinking/drugging. You know reading over this, it sounds like I am talking about the 12 steps- what a concept! Bottom line is, my recovery started when I left treatment centers. Also, I can have all the AA knowledge in the world, it don't mean a damn thing if I don't put it into action. This is an Action Program, if I want to stay sober/clean. Anyways enough of my preaching/teachings-however you preceed it . I hope everyone has a safe 4th of July. May God bless you and your loved ones.

Hi Isabel -

It's great to see you here. I'm from the other side of the fence, but if I let my guard down or become complacent, I find myself struggling. Recovery allows me to function and lead a reasonably happy life, no matter how my addicted loved one is doing.

Thanks for sharing and I hope to see more of your postings.

hugs ~

deedee
