Our Own Song You are reading from the book Today's Gift. A bird does not sing because he has an answer. He sings because he has a song. --Joan Walsh Anglund Each of us has a song to sing, just as birds do. Part of knowing who we are is appreciating our own songs. Are our songs gentle like the robins, or are we brilliant leaders like the bluejay? Are we easy to be around like the sparrow, or do we radiate joy and laughter like the loon? Each of these birds has something special to offer. So do we, with our own unique personalities and talents. What a waste it would be if the loon never dashed across the lake because he wanted to be a robin instead. It is important to learn who we are and to believe we are special in our own way. We give joy to the world around us when we sing our own songs. Have I listened to my own song lately?

As a recovering codependent, part of my growth was to discover who I really was, and get to know this stranger called "me". For most of my life, I was so busy living for everyone else, and being a reflection of them, that somewhere along the way I completely lost sight of me. It is good to know that I am who I am, and like that person, warts and all, continually growing and learning along the way. And it's good to be able to be true to what I am, follow my dreams, respect my own values, and stand up for myself even if I stand alone sometimes. Living and doing what is right for me, staying true to my values and embracing my individuality is the best way I know of "singing my own song". Hugs Ann

| I really, really like this post Ann. I can relate 100%. I always felt inadequate... like my song was somehow less important than others. Now I know it's just different. I can find strength in that. Quote:

Ain't that the truth. I don't really sing, but I guitar sings. My heart sings and cries sometimes. I'm remixing at the moment, had the volume too low on the master mix. Almost ready to come out of my nut shell.lol

Yes, grinmar; Each of us has our own song to sing. There is strength in that for sure. How does a chorus make its harmony? With the strength of each voice blended together. One cannot dominate else the balance is lost. Together, each with their own voice, come the harmonies which fill our souls. It's a beautiful thing -- our own unique voice... Shalom!
