Lightbulb If...

"If I am not for myself,
Who will be for me?
If I am only for myself,
What am I?
If not now,
When? "
Rabbi Hillel

This is a pretty good recovery saying, no?
Shalom!

It is a good saying indeed! For too long I took care of others and not so much myself. That is slowly changing to be more balanced.

Ahh, Grinmar;
I like how you say it's changing to be more "balanced."
We are social animals. We do have a social, civic responsibility.
But, we can't give it all to ourselves.
There has to be some for others, too.
Balance, that's the ticket!
And that, to me, is where I want to be in my recovery.
I'm still learning; but, it's getting better everyday!

Shalom!

I understand. But for too long I have been out of balance. As a volunteer fireman (and President of the fire dept) I give about 15-20 hours of my time each week volunteering. I'd spend time at the firehall doing things when things at home didn't get done. I am stepping down as President at the end of the year to work on myself more. That said, they want me to be Treasurer again! At least that won't take as much time and is easier for me to do.
