A Creed To Live By

A Creed To Live By

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them life is meaningless.

Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.

Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give love. The fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don't dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.

Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you're going. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

I loved this when I read it. Almost every single line spoke directly to me, and I don't think that was a coincidence. My HP has a strange way of passing me notes and messages.

Morning Glory used to try to get this through my thick head, and now it is almost a tribute to her that I have finally been able to do this...live in today.

This stubborn redhead has learned how to undig her heels and instead persevere with hope and dedication...big difference.

And the line that spoke loudest to me...Don't dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; to be without hope is to be without purpose.

Amen to all of that.

Hugs
Ann

I do pretty well with much of this post but the two parts I quoted I admit that I do struggle with at times. Not in all aspects of my life but definitely in some.

So the thing I need to figure out now is what are MY goals. I think the #1 thing is to have some children.

I love this thread Ann.. Thanks,, helps remind me what I struggle with, and that, I am not alone in my struggles. I want to keep working on these things that hurt, and stop me from growing in life.. I guess I have compared myself in my life to people I felt equal to in my life, until they turnedd right in life, and I took a life turn, into drugs. I am getting better with this. I struggle more I guess with all the time I lost,, and the things I lost.. That is all getting better though, I don't miss all of that as much as I did..

This is one thing I have no problem with, admitting my imperfections. I need all the help I can get. lol..

Oh yeah, it's not so much that I have forgotten my dreams, but my dreams kind of died. My dream was always to be a LPN,, a Nurse, not in my future anymore though. I don't have that dream anymore. It disappeared in like the last year,a nd I always did want to be one. Not sure why? Lack of esteem i suppose..

Man, I used to struggle with this so badly. I missed SO much of my life, rushing through. I was ALWAYS in a hurry. I did everything FAST, NEVER taking time to enjoy anything. This I can actually say, I do not do anymore
I do take alot of time, and I do enjoy more.

At times though, I don't enjoy things the way I use to, at all..
At times.

Thanks so much again.. For the reminder..
Love and prayers.,

ACCEPTANCE
Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.
When I am disturbed, it is because I find some
person, place, thing, or situation-- Some fact of life -- unacceptable to me, and
I can find no serenity until I accept that
person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly
the way it is supposed to be at this moment.
Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in
God's world by mistake.
Unless I accept life completely on life's terms,
I cannot be happy.
I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to
be changed in the world as on what needs to
be changed in me and in my attitudes.

- from The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, page 449 -

This is my favorite.
