Relationships After Rehab

Hi Is It True That You Should Not Be In A Relationship For A Year After You Get Out Of Rehab?

It really can't hurt you to not be involved with another person during the first year of recovery. It is a highly recommended course of action for a lot of us.

If you are in a relationship when you go into the rehab, then you may want to stay in it unless it is jeopardizing your recovery. If your not in a relationship, it certainly might be a good idea to wait until you get to know yourself. The clean and sober version of us is not the same person as the one who used, and that first year or 2 can play helll with us while we try to figure out just who is who.

I've heard that the first year in recovery you can have sex. The second year, you can have sex with someone else.

The idea is not to make any BIG decisions in the first year, relationships seems to come up alot so its always pointed out. Job change, getting out of a healthy relationship, moving etc.. BIG decisions
