Thought I'd share

Thought I'd share a problem I had when i first began in recovery, and I still have to work on today....

When I did my first treatment a couple of years ago, the people I was in treatment with would tease me for always hanging my head, and having a "" Little voice."" I was the cute little one... For as long as I can remember, but I didn't realize why people thought that.. Until they began to teased me, in treatment, and i really began to look at it.
I rarely looked up.. I knew Ihad low self esteem, but I guess I didn't realize how LOW it really was... When I spoke, people always had to say, "what, what, what did you say"??

Well, when I started my Intensive outpaitent treatment in April, when I had my one on one with my couselor, she told me the things I really needed to work on, and the 1st thing she said was, I needed to hold my head up, and speak loud enough for people to hear me....

You know it wasn't until then that I realized I even do that with my husband of 17 years!!!! That's pretty bad. So in group, she would constantly remind me. So one day, when my hubby and I were riding in the car, and it was like the 2nd time he said "what did you say, I can't hear you" , I then decided to tell him that everytime he can not hear me, he needs to remind me,,, because I think it became the "norm" for both him and I.. Him not hearing me, and me always repeating myself...

I am am trying to be constantly aware of my speaking, and if I am looking up when I talk.. I realize to now, how irritating it is for everyone around me to not hear me when I talk.

Just wanted to share that, too see if there are many of you that suffered that same thing. It can be a way of life, that you don't even realize, until someone points it out

Love ya all------- BECKY--- Lookin up, speaking loudly, well not to loud
