Lyme Disease.

This has nothing to do with my recovery, but everything to do with my life.

I spent most of the day in the emergency room with my 7 year old son. He's been sick for a few days, and has been getting sicker.

They diagnosed him with Lyme disease. I guess I am getting a little freaked out reading about it.

They don't know how advanced it is yet, the Lyme Titer won't be finished until tomorrow, then it has to go to an Infectious Disease specialist. In the meantime, they've started him on Anti-biotics and Childrens Tylenol for the Headache and fever.

I'm exhausted. I usually work late on Mondays, but I had to leave work at 1PM to go get him from school and take him to the ER. Instead of being on my feet all night, I spent the day sitting in the ER going from 1 test to another with him.

I am really proud of him. For a 7 year old, he was really good. He didn't cry when they drew blood, and he thought the CT scan of his head was really cool. "It's just like Star Wars".

I just need to get this out. I guess I am a little scared of the consequences with this. (especially after reading the info the hospital gave us.)

Thanks again for being here to let me vent.

Keeping him in my prayers, Laurie. I wish I knew what else to say...but it's there in my heart. Just listen carefully.

Hi Laurie,

I don't blame you for being scared but I'm glad you found out about it and have started taking care of it. I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's the worst to see our kids in such a situation. Sending you lots of positive thoughts!

Love, Anna

My prayers are with you. Lime Disease, is very difficult. So many of the symptoms memick other problems. Some doctors will miss it due to this. My sister has a form of Muscular Dystophy, and for a time they thought she had Lime Disease. I'm thankful the treatment wasn't delayed by misdiagnosis. This is sort of like alcoholism, it can be diagnosed as Manic/depresive very easy. My same sister was treaded for years for manic because she wasn't honest with doctor about drinking. Those days they didn't have the technolgy to contridict the patient. Again in my prayers. Don W

If they tested for it and the test came back positive, its because they caught it early on! Good thing they did! That means he hasn't had it that long, so they should be able to get rid of it with anti-biotics. Don't be scared, but he may have to take the anti-biotics for quite a bit longer than one would for other infections, its just that Lyme is harder to get rid of, but the type of medication they use will get rid of it, it just takes a bit longer to work, and make sure its ALL GONE! I am praying for you and your son! I have a 7 year old son as well, his name is Zach, and I just feel for you!

You're probably wondering how I know about Lyme, I don't have it, but I have a friend who does and they have had it for 10 years because it was never detected on a LYME test due to the fact that they tested for it too late (after 30 days, it only shows up in the blood stream for about 30 days), but this person is alive and well, they just have to take some medication to control the symptoms. But I believe that your son is lucky because they caught it early enough! Be strong, hang in there and as you know, ONE DAY AT A TIME! God is on your side! Luv and prayers to you and your family....

Luv

Jocelyn

I am so sorry to hear that. I too am a mother, and I know how hard it is to watch your child go through anything, let alone anything that scares you. If he had to get lymes disease, at least it is a few years into understanding a bit more about the disease. I am in no way minimizing your feelings. I would also be very frightened. I have read some of the reply's here and it looks like there is some good news here.
You and your family WILL be in my prayers. Love, Becky

I know we are lucky that we caught it early. It's just so hard to sit back and wait.

He is VERY sick. High fever, painful headaches (can't sit in a room with the light or TV on.) Vomiting constantly, can't even keep down a couple sips of ginger ale. Having a hard time keeping the anti-biotics and the tylenol down. The 'bulls eye' actually is getting bigger. He keeps crying that he's never going to feel better.

I was up every 45 min to an hour with him last night. He kept vomiting. I had to go to work today, that was really hard. It killed me to leave him with my father. And, the doctor I was working with last night (I had to leave work to take him to the ER) gave me attitude about it today. I will be on his sh*t list for a while.

I took an hour nap when I got home today, but I am still exhausted.

Thank you all for the prayers. Keep them coming.

PS. I was supposed to go to a funeral tonite, but can't because my son is sick and I feel bad about it. And, today is my 8th wedding anniversary. Nice romantic PUKEY night.huh

First i want to say, "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!"

second i want to say, "Just be there for your son and keep your head up for him. if he sees you falling apart, it will only scare him. Just be there for him and comfort him!

i totally feel for you. My aunt has lyme disease and she didn't find out about it till way late! and it takes a big toll on her daily. and she goes through treatments every other month. Hang in there, and i can guarantee he has a 99% chance of being ok since they caught it so soon. just keep giving him the antibiotics and just keep loving him! that's what he needs right now.

hang in there! you are in my prayers! give your son a BIG hug!

Well, he seems to be feeling better.

He kept a bowl of soup down, and now he is eating strawberries (he loves them). So that is good. Now we just have to work on the headache and fever.

As far as my anniversary, it's not very happy. Dealing with a few resentments with my husband that just really hurt right now.

Thank you anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was looking in the medical encyclopedia online for the symptoms of Lyme disease, this is what I found:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/001319.htm

Looks like you caught it in time, so he'll be fine with the antibiotics. If he keeps throwing up, perhaps it's an idea to get him to the hospital tho so they can put him on an IV for fluids, antibiotics, etc. I hope he feels better soon. It's hard to see your kids being sick. I'm sorry for your relationship problems too. *hugs*

BSP,
Thank you for the link.

He is feeling much better today. His fever is down (not normal but WAY down). his headaches aren't as severe or frequent. He finally stopped vomiting. and has managed to keep some food down and some gatorade. (I won't let him have anything but gatoraid because of dehydration and electrolytes). The bulls-eye has almost disappeared. I actually feel a little guilty because he got a bit rammy today and was getting on my nerves (never satisfied) and I had to tell him to settle down.

Thank you for all of your responses.
