| Am I Being Adopted By A... Cat?!?
Not recovery related, but Ann and SR family - can I get your help? I am owned by two beautiful boys - (that's the baby in my avatar). Anyway, I seem to be in the process of being adopted by a cat and I'm not sure what to do. Where I live it's common to see neighbor cats around and about. I know most of them and talk to them whenever I see them. (True animal lover here.) So, a few days ago, a new cat - a small tabby - went to great lengths to get my attention when I was out walking my boys. When I noticed him/her, she/he increased the volume of the meows and rubbed his/her face on the balcony railing as if to invite me to come up and pet him/her. I told him/her that he/she is beautiful, but that I was the dog's mom and that he/she should go home.A couple of days ago, the cat showed up at my patio window and wouldn't leave even though the boys were barking their heads off at him/her. I was amazed. He/she really likes dogs and my boys seem to be ok with him/her, too. I let the cat in and picked him/her up and he/she seemed to melt into my neck and chest. It was amazing. I have never seen a cat so open, direct and friendly. I let the boys meet him/her and that went OK. I had to leave so I took the cat outside- definitely against his/her will and explained that he/she needed to go home. Last night he/she showed up again and since it was raining and cold, I let her/him sleep in the living room. I couldn't get him/her to leave this morning. I managed to put the cat out this afternoon but he/she showed up at the patio window again about 10 minutes later and very clearly doesn't want to leave. I asked a couple of neighbors and they do not know whose cat it is. He/she is clean and looks well cared for so I think he/she does have a home. So, has this type of thing happened to anyone else? I am getting the impression that the cat is trying to adopt me! What do you guys think? I think I need to continue looking for his/her home and see what's going on there. Maybe knock on some doors? But... then what? Thanks for your advice. hugs, phinny P.S. Obviously by my akward use of "he/she" I have no idea how to tell if the cat is male or female. Um... can anyone give me a quick run down on the feline facts of life? (*sheesh* )

| Sexing felines ^Here's a link that should help you. Also, if it's an orange tabby, it's probably male. And this is me in response to your post. > :Lmao I know you all probably think of me as a cat person, but I do have two good-sized dogs as well. Just so you know. LOL. Love and hugs, Eddie

Phinny, Toby adopted me too, and when a cat takes ownership of us...we have been owned!!! Check out if he/she has a home already...again my Toby goes around charming the whole neighbourhood just to see what he can get, but if he's available then move him in. How to tell which sex? Well, Phinny, just take a good look Hugs Ann

One thing I have learned in a lifetime of having cats --they have a mind of their own and if they want you, they got you! Have you started thinking of names for this sweetheart? If you have again, you have a cat? Did you check out the brands of cat food at the store? Ooops! You probably have a cat! Have you paid more attention to the cat food/litter ads on TV? You're a goner! Enjoy the new family member and know that you will be blessed one hundred fold for taking kittycat in. 2 of my 3 cats were strays and I didn't "need" them either, but dog gone it, I wouldn't trade them for anything! :e03c

Thank you, my feline-loving friends (sans Andy and Dan, that is... ). Well, I found myself running to the grocery store last night as I had a strange craving for... tuna! *sheesh* I am praying that the cat is a boy (might be just a little late for gender prayers, huh?) because HE is a delicate little charchol gray tabby with a rather large tummy. So I am praying that HE is fat and that HE is not pregnant. Oy! HE is very direct and insistant about staying here, even with my two dogs. What could my new fuzzy little friend be thinking? I wonder if HE knows that I am an animal lover down to my toes and that's why HE picked me? If he has a good home, HE wouldn't be so insistant about staying with me, right? hugs, phinny P.S. Good to see you ((((Dawn))))

Phin, I'd say you've been adopted! Lovely story. You could keep an eye out in the paper to see if anyone is missing their child. Should you decide to keep him, take him to the vet for a check up as cats can pick up all kinds of critters especially ring worm and you wouldn't want to pass that on to you or your other children. | |

Well, an update on my little furry friend and the woman she decided to own... I put her out yesterday and she hasn't been back yet. I think she decided to check in at her "real" home. Funny thing is... well, I miss her. :tissue And, hey, Eddie. The sleep thing is much, much better. Thanks for your advice and support. Back to my house for awhile at least. hugs, phinny

Amazing how quickly we get attached to those little furballs! Maybe you should get a kitten. Kittens rock! And you're welcome, too. I'm glad things are better for you. Love and purrs, Eddie (I really do wish I could purr!)

So that is where my cat went? *LOL* Charlie cat is seven years old so it wasn't him. Still though, Charlie cat poked at the basement window till the glass popped out and now Charlie cat is running around...who knows where.

eddie Thank you Charlie was a replacement for Muffin. We only had Charlie for a month. He may come back or he may not. This is the first time he has been out. We are still looking for a kitten all the same.
