Definition of Fear

Hi guys. I read something in a book last night that totally hit me. I just wanted to share it with my friends here at SR.

The definition of fear is False Expectations Appearing Real

Think about all the things we fear....

Fear of rejection they say is mankinds # 1 fear
Fear of failure
Fear of being hurt
Fear of not being good enough
Fear of hurting someone
Fear of success (yes thats actually a fear)
Fear of losing someone
Fear of the truth
Fear of change

OK people, here's the deal. Let's try to stop operating our lives based on fear. Fear imoblizes us. It prevents us from taking necessary action. If we start to look at the things we don't want to see, then that is a step in conquering our fears. Only by facing them can we deal with them. Otherwise they continue to be a monkey on our backs.
In the definition above notice it says that they are false expectations....appearing real. Sometimes we truly make mountains out of molehills.

Perhaps if we truly believe that we have a Higher Power watching out for us we can eliminate some of our fears. We may say we have faith, but are we truly living our lives in accord with complete faith? If we try to perceive ourselves as more spiritual beings rather than letting the worldly cares of our human existence overtake us, I believe it will relieve us of unnecessary fears and stress.
Prayer is powerful and so often we neglect it.

Thanks for letting me share
My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you
Love Diana

The only antidote to Fear I ever found was Faith. I can't live in both at the same time, so as long as I hang on to my faith, even blind faith, then fear has no place to rest in my heart.

Thanks for posting this. I need the reminder.

Hugs
Ann

No it isn't

I don't know why this bothers me, but the definition of fear is not "false sexpectations appearing real." According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the definition of fear is a feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.

Someone made that other one up because it happens to fit nicely. Just because the words start with the letters that spell "fear" doesn't mean it is true.

Once again, Diana, you hit exacty where I'm at dead on. I've had what I call this "wall of fear" right in front of me for awhile now. I feel it physically even. And it's not just holding me back, I am paralyzed.

I just read in a book yesterday- what would you do if you were not afraid? Wow. That question hit my right between the eyes. So, I am going to carry that question around with me and when the fear hits, do it anyway. I do have faith. I am going to grab onto that faith and walk through my fears.

hugs,

phinny

"sexpectations"..Bless you Pum I needed a big smile before bed!

On Fear, I try very hard to not allow fear to overcome my life. Praying is my antidote to fear.
