"DALLAS -- A man wanted for questioning in the shooting deaths of two people during a Narcotics Anonymous meeting was held early today after ending a four-hour standoff with law officers. ADVERTISEMENT


The double slaying Thursday apparently stemmed from a domestic dispute, police said.

The assailant and the victims got into an argument after attending the 6 p.m. Grove Group meeting in a Southeast Dallas strip mall, police said.

Homicide Sgt. Ross Salverino told The Dallas Morning News in Friday's editions that the gunman "came outside after the male subject, who climbed into his vehicle. He was shooting, and the vehicle took off through the parking lot."

Witnesses said the injured man slammed his appliance company pickup into two nearby parked cars, crossed the road and went through a fence and a yard before crashing into a creek. Police said the 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at Baylor University Medical Center.

Authorities said the gunman then returned to the meeting and fatally shot a 43-year-old Garland woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. Paul Morriss, a communications officer.

Police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect.

The former substitute teacher at an elementary school raced home and barricaded himself in the dwelling shortly before 7 p.m. Officers surprised the man shortly after 11 p.m. and arrested him without a struggle. He had been armed with a 9 mm handgun, police said"

Those of us in Dallas are in need to tremendous support. Lois had been a member of NA for 10 Years. Darryl, a few years. And Yolland, 14 years. Yes, Yolland, the shooter, had 14 years clean and was clean at the time of the shooting. That is the most horrifying. I was going to say shocking but I guess after my past life 8 years ago very little shocks me today. I find it horrifying that 14 years and we kill. I knew all three of these people and it is unfortunate to find out that the 14 years did not occompany any step work. Makes me think.
