New here and saying Hello!

Hi, I'm Chris, and I am new here. I just wanted to say hello.

I am recovering from sexual addiction and I thought a good place to start would be this general forum. It is good to be here.

I have ten days of sobriety which is not too bad. It could be better, but I used to get obsessed about sobriety a lot (how many months do I have, how many weeks do I have). I would end up losing my sobriety by obsessing about it so much. Now I am trying to live in the present moment. Sobriety can be lived only in the present moment, because I can't live in the past (it no longer exists) nor in the future (it doesn't exist yet). So I am really trying to live in the here and now.

That's where I am at right now. Hope to make some new friends here!

Hi Chris

Welcome!
Yes! One day at a time...one hour at a time...one minute at a time. I really appreciate the Here and Now. What do we have, if not this very moment? I miss out on so much that is going on right now, when my thoughts are whirling around what I did yesterday or what I might do tomorrow.
Every moment adds up to a constructive, clean day.
At one point in my life, a few years back, my closest sober friends were all wrapped up in everything but today. I was planning on getting another tattoo, so guess what I had put on my upper arm? HERE AND NOW. A little drastic, maybe? It was that or "death to you m#th#r@ck*r." Just kidding. I'm really a nice person. Just a little into levity.
Being in the here and now, keeps me mindful of my motivations and the motivations of others. It unclutters my path and brings hope into my life.
Good luck.
Boots

Thanks everybody. I feel a lot of support already! It will be fun to explore the different options here.

Is this particular forum (General) the best one to post on if one is recovering from sexual addiction?

Boots, I've been actually thinking along your lines with the tatoo. One day I'm gonna get one, and, quite frankly, yours sounds like a great idea.

Drastic? Sure. But I think I did more drastic things when acting out. :beerchug:

This is as good a place as any, Chris, and we're glad you're here. There's no special place for sexual addiction here, but I suspect a number of people here have struggled with internet/sex addiction as well as alcoholism, etc. All addictions have certain things in common, and this is a great place for working on those things.

Thanks, Stoic. You are right -- there are many commonalities among various addictions. There's a great sense of sharing and understanding in these threads.

It's great to be here!
