I did the same thing I did with cigarettes years back.
Just stopped doing it.

Yes it's not easy and detox was very rough. But crowds scare the hell out of me and so does talking in front of them.
It's been 200 days now and I'm happy, enjoying life and have very little cravings at this point. SR has helped me so much as well.
I'm in the process of rewiring my thought processes.

Change the way you think, you change the way you feel then that changes the way you act and react.

Lol

We are all liars or most of us wouldn't be here.
I wanted the insanity to stop. AA was in my area.
I've got several years sober.
The important thing is if you're all reading this, you're doing so because alcohol is causing you or a loved one problems.
There might be some people hit this site out of idle curiosity there rest of us didn't get on here by accident.

Fortunately...

Fortunately for me, despite my suffering the delusions of alcoholism, at the 'tipping point' when I was so debilitated by alcohol I feared I wouldn't see the sunrise the next day. The god of my understanding, for no other human being was present, I had a 'psychic or spiritual' experience...something I've had to accept.

There being no other explanation forthcoming...

See, 'The Doctors Opinion'. 'Alcoholics Anonymous' 4th Ed. regarding this phenomena...it was nothing to do with me.

Oh. My. God. I feel so stupid for posting that. And no alcohol since Sunday so I can't even blame that. I'm new here so I haven't really absorbed the name of the app yet, lol

I know this is true for AA and I suspect the same for others. You get out what you put in.

Like Anna, I believe the answer lies in joining whatever program helps you feel the most motivated to recover. I believe there is some very good, useful things in all programs and put out there for very good hearted reasons, so we can all help each other. I stiched together and harmonized various elements from vary different programs, but I will only say that worked for me. I don't know if it will work for all. But I hope everyone quickly finds what works for them, then pass it on. I may nerd it someday!

Alcohol almost every night for 13 years.

Then I went to a treatment center, which directed me to AA.

I have been going ever since.

Haven't had a drink or a drug since, and it's been a few 24 hours so to speak.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

I've tried a lot of different ways, including self-will, and AA is the only thing that has gotten me this far!

Me too. I made my two most important (previously troublesome) amends today and yesterday. I feel GREAT!

I wonder how many used a combination of methods. I know I did. None alone were enough for me. Just call me Mule.

Two days of not knowing if I was going to live or die. Five days total in the hospital. I knew I was an alcoholic and tried to quit many times before this incident. Doctor said if I drink again I will die. Problem solved. Still have the cravings being only 44 days sober but I want to be around for my wife and children and future grandchildren.

That's what kept me alive too. Now I want it for me as well. Life became fun once I did the right thing and quit drinking.

But I could not take your poll because there is no choice for all of them. I dropped several and pretty much use only here. Well actually I don't need here anymore either. I don't get cravings or think about it except here anymore. I hang out to try to offer moral support and help others to repay what I got from here. My life back. (Sure it wasn't just SR, but SR was a 50% part for most of it)

I also am dealing with some permanent damage from my years of drinking that can be very serious. My sobriety more than a year after quitting is now medically necessary. Do I feel the urge to drink over it? Naaah. I sure wish I knew what I know now, when I was younger and starting to drink in my 30s heavier than before and 15 years before it progressed to being alcoholism. When we talk about sobriety we are talking about life, but the unspoken is that it is about death as well. Good for you for taking the bull by the horns and doing something, anything, if it works for you.
Exactly this
