Please Note:

This is a recovery forum and promoting the use of any drug is not appropriate.

"Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share experience, strength and hope that they may solve their common problem"
Alcoholism is our common problem, nothing else. I don't like it any more than the next person but I don't make the rules.
Also I have also heard and read this in meetings. "Remember that what you hear here are opinions and only opinions as no one may speak for AA as a whole". Therefore it invalidates the question and the answers read here.

According to AA the orginazation, pot, and all other drugs would be considered an outside issue.....the purpose of AA is to help alcoholics gain sobriety, which they define as freedom from alcohol (only alcohol).

Therefore, according to AA; their official position would be that pot and AA could mix.

NoelleR

P.S. I'd add my opinion to this thread, but it would be worth as much as everybody else's here...............just another opinion, and totally worthless when considering the question as posted in the OP. I would go to the source for the answer.....the official AA website.....where I would see that AA is all about alcohol, and alcohol only.
While AA is all about alcohol, Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole has a phamplet called "AA members and other drugs" which (like our big book) contains stories of other AA members expereinces after stopping drinking through AA, with drugs including Pot, Pills, Medication and the alike.

AA has a lot of literature like this and most of it goes, "AA (as a whole) does not have an opinion on (whatever it is) BUT the expereince of some of our members has been....."

AA does not seem to have an opinion on this, however, the use of any mind-altering substance does contradict the principles and practice of AA, imo.

One of the things that we need to ask ourselves is this. If we have made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of god as we understand him we wouldn't be doing any type of drugs to begin with. I don't think God wants us to do drugs. Gods will says "NO" and If I still do drugs than I am still running on self will. That hasn't worked out too well for me in the past. Before we go on with "As we Understand Him" part and use that as an excuseto do drugs, we will remember that God wants us to be Happy Jouous and free. If we need drugs to alter our minds even though it's not alcohol, are we truley "free"?
I don't think we are.

If some kind of deity actually exists, I doubt it cares whether any individual human puts chemicals into their body or not...

actually I had more mystery in my life when I was using - where am I...what day is it...where are my pants....?

It's - seriously - far better to have clarity in my life now

For me there is no way mystery and clarity are mutually exclusive. I simply mean that I no longer have to know how everything works, dont have to analyse and rip it to shreds, rather just accept that it is, but hey thats just me

Fair enough Kev.
I was making a joke really - I'm not disparaging your point of view, although I don't entirely share it

I am finding that the notion of a deity has nothing to do with anything, except the individual. The "deity" is merely an interpretation from person to person of something that is greater than ourselves. "What is", if you will.

Not accepting "what is" is the main root of fear in my life. Thus, escape from reality has provided a band-aid for this, whether it has been using substance or other people. It's all the same thing to me.

But just being dogmatic about a deity and/or religion accomplishes nothing to me. And I agree with you, the order of things does not care what you put into your body.

Almost EVERY drug I know of is more dangerous than pot. Alcohol, cigs, even depression meds and tylenol. cough syrup. You name it. They'll all kill you faster than pot.

I dont see anything wrong with smoking some pot now and then. You may disagree.
You're right, I do disagree.

Are you trying to justify it? Seems to me like you've taken one person's opinion and run a muck. If you want to smoke pot, go ahead. However, I agree with the others. Taking drugs to make you feel different is still getting high. Justify it anyway you want.

I go to AA. I know when I am messing with other substances, I can't be honest with myself or anyone else, even if I am not drinking. It gets in the way of working the programme. I've really, really tried, trust me!!!!

And if coffee and nicotine is mind altering, then so is going for a run due to the release of natural endorphins.

Going for a run is more natural and much more healthy.

Coffee before a run and a cigarette after a run are nice too, lol!!

I was just trying to point out that coffee and cigs are a world away from pot as far as altering your mind is concerned! If they are on a par, I want to know where you are getting your coffee from!

As far as adding chemicals to our bodies...what ever happended to our bodies are our temple? We have only one body. We need to take care of it.

Pot isn't dangerous? Check out the carcinogen effects and other ill effects of smoking it.

If you want to smoke pot go for it. No one in AA ever told me I couldn't drink or drug. Alot say they couldnt sucessfully but if I wasnt done experimenting Hey Go Get You Some More see how it works for ya. They are mostly like me and it didnt work for them so I assume it wont work for me. If you can smoke drink an drug more power to ya but why would ya want to be around people who are sober bring down your high I wouldnt.

Ok, so you have all had your laugh, I was making a serious point for me and I am somewhat surprised at how its being ridiculed and by a Forum Leader too.

OK - like I said before Kevin - no offence meant - it was just a joke, and it was one at my expense, not yours.

lets get back on topic
