To be honest I was always a dog person until about 10 years ago that is. My house borders a large wooded area and I started feeding the stray cats. I now have over 30 cats alltogether. I have 11 indoor cats and just over 20 outside. This past year I got them all spayed or neutered as the population was getting out of control. The local SPCA had a low cost trap and release program for the outside ones. We have an old shed on the property that I converted to a cat house for the outside guys. Every time I go shopping I take someone else along as it always takes 2 carts. One for people food and one for cat food and litter. Between food and vet bills they are quite an expensive undertaking but worth every penny. I've raised many liters of newborns and found homes for a lot of them but as the population grew getting them all fixed was the only option. People that don't have pets don't know what their missing out on, they add a certain something to your life that words cannot describe. They are all unique and have distinct personalities. Because I have so many cats I buy the large cans of cat food that require a can opener. In most households a can opener wouldn't be a problem but cats quickly learn to equate the sound of a can opener with "It's Time To Eat". God only knows how but the outside ones even hear it and the whole colony lines up at the back door and makes their presence known by meowing loudly and scratching at the door. My theory is that they keep a sentry posted at the back door and he radios to the others that supper is on. I could go on and on with cat stories but I'm starting to ramble on. Any other cat lovers out there with stories to share? . |

I love the theory about the cat sentry!! My cats eat dry food, but they have had canned enough times that they, too, think the can opener means food. I think it's wonderful that you have had them all "fixed". I have 3 cats, and they are my babies....the one in my avatar is Elvis, the old man, who's about 7 or 8. They are all spoiled rotten, but bring much joy to my life. We also have a chihuahua, but the cats definitely rule the house. I give my cats treats, and they each have their own little spots where I put their treats. I accidentally poured treats for Elvis in one of the other cats's spots...he just looked at me like I had lost my mind. They like their routines! Hugs and prayers! Amy

Oh yes! I do love my two cats. Unconditional love if they are in the mood! LOL For me, there's nothing more soothing than a purring cat in the lap. Do post your cat stories here. I can't think of any good ones at the moment. Mine are both having a snooze next to me. Love, Lenina |

My three boys are the loves of my life. They each have their own personality and it's so much fun to watch them. Kona, 'the big brother' is the King. When I feed the cats, the twins come running for their food, but I have to take Kona's food to him. If I leave it on the floor, the twins will eat it, so I am a servant to my Kona, and I love it.

Have you ever noticed what drama queens most cats are? One little change in the schedule and it's The of The World. My little old lady cat can't stand it when things aren't right. If there's a sock on the floor that shouldn't be there, she worries about it. Yowling and fussing until the sock is put in its proper place. I can recommend a really funny book that was written from the cat's point of view: "The Autobiography of Foudini M. Cat". He explained a lot for me. Love, Lenina |

Hi Lenina, Yes, I can totally relate to the drama thing. My boys constantly do 'the rounds' in the house. If there is something on the floor that shouldn't be there, they will play with it and then bring it to me, to do something about it. They never fail to notice the smallest change. Tanya, That looks amazing! Where did you find that little guy?

((Tanya)) Wow, now THAT is an amazing cat!!! My cats don't really care if something is out of place, unless it's on my bed...then it just gets tossed on the floor. Good thing the laptop is too heavy to toss on the floor Hugs and prayers! Amy

Poor little kitty...don't think he'll be getting adopted any time soon. Of course, I wouldn't be too happy about being in a cage, either. I tried to put my cats in cages, to drive to FL when I was moving there. OMG, I was scratched to within an inch of my life! The one wasn't so bad, but the other fought me like a darned lion. Then, he scratched at the cage all the way down there, until his paw started bleeding. I stopped and got some gauze (I was a nurse)...try to wrap up a cat's paw....not fun. Someone finally told me you stand the cage on its end, and put the cat in back feet first. That works a whole lot better and I don't end up almost needing stitches, myself! Hugs and prayers! Amy

Great photos Tanya. Love cats and we have three. Before that we had a grand old girl who lived until she was 22. Our eldest, a male 4 is a real alleycat troublemaker. He is always out fighting and bears the scars of his battles. He bosses the other when he is in the mood, they keep out of his way if he is looking for trouble. He thinks he is a tough guy but loves a bit of attention if no one else is around to see it. The other two are brother and sister and are lovely cats. The girl is very playful and loves to sit on me, on my papers and even on the laptop when I am using it. Her brother, a tabby is my shadow. He is a real talker with a very loud voice and follows me around the house. If I sit down he is with me and he usually sleeps on the bed as well. If I am out for a long time, he berates me when I return. Great story looking after all those cats BTSO.

The bottom kitted is called Trixie Trix, she was crawling for her life in the middle of a busy street in Barcelona. Nasty little creatues keep finding me!!! ![]()

Yeahgr8 the cat with the grey and white head is interesting, she seems to have grey, white, orange and black fur. You don't see many like that, a calico has black, white and orange and they are almost always female. Very unique cat.

She's a lovely cat, no trouble at all, she is my trixie trix...had a trustworthy young friend come up to cat sit whilst i went on already booked hols, apparently she saw him as something to play with! He said she keeps challenging him to a fight which i did not understand on the phone. When i came back we had an overlap of flights and i saw what he meant...He was sitting there playing xbox and she walked up slowly head cocked to one side and then all of a sudden got on her him legs, stertched out her arms and paws and made this, what can only be described as a, kitten attemot at a roar. i choked with laughing...moments like that are priceless. Another quick one, a mate came up to see me, she has a lot of toys, one is a big covered bed. My friend is a dog person, nuff said;-) Anyway i shouted upstairs as i do often where's trixie so he went to her room and bent down to look into her bed, as he did so (she has a chair with a back by the window she likes to sit on) he felt a thump on the back of his head, she had snuck onto the back of the chair and done that pat thing cats do with arm outstertched but quite firmly. I heard my friend exclaim owww and ran upstairs to find them looking at each other, my friend shouts, holding his head, 'here your cat just hit me' with this look of bemusement on his face. Nothing like a good laugh in the morning as a stand off between a kitten and a huge 6ft 2 inch alpha male lol

My stepmom came in my room today, to ask me a question. Mots (for mouth of the south, because he's so loud) started "fussing" at her. I didn't know if it was because she woke him up or because she wasn't paying him attention, but as soon as she left, he went to sleep. Later, when she came back in, we found out he wanted some TLC. Once she petted him and talked to him, he was a happy camper. We have spoiled kitties Hugs and prayers! Amy

One of my cats likes "talking". He puts his paw on my mouth and wants the words! At the risk of sounding like the middle-aged woman with no kids I am, I have a confession: I sing to my cats! Any song will do, as long as I use their names repetitively. Not unlike a certain husband I have.... Love, Lenina |

Amy I have a cat that hisses at everyone that walks past him, he even hisses at the other cats while they're eating and they just ignore him. His ears are never cocked back so he's not really mad, I think he just likes to hiss. I also have a female calico that never grew out of that kneading phase, she loves nothing more than to sit on your lap or climb on you if your in bed and knead away. I have to keep her claws well trimmed or I'd end up looking like a pin cushion. |

I love the Christian story. I have it saved on my "favorites" and watch it frequently. I don't care how many times I've seen it, I still cry. He's just a bigger version of my Mots...even acts like him!
