I loved The Red Tent also. In that same vein, I also recently read Pilate's Wife (just okay, I thought). I'm currently listening on CD to the latest Peter Mayle book, French Lessons. It isn't really lessons on speaking French, as those of you who've read him know. It is, as his books always are, a description in lovingly, deliciously, minute detail of French foods, both exotic and mundane, with some details about French customs and life thrown in. As a devoted Francophile (especially to their food! Yum!), I love it. But it's very easy reading/listening. Anyone will love his descriptive prose. You come away from each listening with a burning desire to find a garlicky, cheesy bowl of French onion soup!!! I think, if I was in a hard craving for drugs, that this would be kind of good to listen to, might redirect my craving to food? Less harmful, for sure. KJ |

On my IPOD I have the Shelby Foote's classic three book series- The Civil War: A Narrative as well as finishing Andrew Morton's new bio on Tom Cruise. In hard copy, I am reading Keys to the Kingdom on the fall of Michael Eisner, former President of Disney Corp. and the late Chief Justice William Reinquest's book on wartime law (written only two years before 9/11). Don't worry. I do some light reading...in fact just finished an Ann Rule and the new VC Andrews

Fannie Flagg's "Cant wait to get to heaven was an excellent book" I just started James Patterson's You've Been Warned. It started out with a bang. This one will be hard to put down.

Ah, the Fannie Flagg is delightful. I tried to order Runs With Scissors from Books a Million last night but they don't list it. Who is the author? If you want something sick and twisted, but strangely different in it's "Love", Try Exquisite Corpses by Poppy Brite. Not for the weak of stomach and sensibilities. It's not your every day killer/thriller by a long shot.

Love to read. Mostly fictionalstuff that really grabs me. So far on my deployment I have read about 60 books. All of Clive Cusslers and a whole host of others. Not the most informational books but really fun to read.

Well...checking in here...did quite a bit of reading while on vacation. I did read Annie freemans Traveling Funeral, and must say...I LOVED IT! Such a good plot and it actually made me laugh, and get teary-eyed in some sections...good book, I recommend it. Makes me want to buy a pait of red tennis shoes! (read the book and find out why I also read 19 minutes by Jody Picoult (she's really spinning books out at a rapid pace) anyway, I really enjoyed this book, and read the darn thing in a day and a half! The story concerns bullying, and the aftermath of what can happen in a childs brain. I read a few more, but forget the names. Sorry, I'll have to start writing them down! I am now going to start "My Lobotomy"by Howard Dully...a Memoir It sounds interesting, yet sad. Also "The Wednesday Letters" by Jason Wright A love story, although they die in the beginning...hmmmm Hugs, and happy reading!

I'm a HUGE bookworm. My favorite author/poet of all time is the late Charles Bukowski (15 years soon 'Nother favorite is Ginsberg. BRILLIANT guy. And I love beat poetry... just finished White Shroud & Cosmopolitan Greetings by him. I make notes in my books & my boyfriend (also a bookworm/writer/poet, like myself) tells me this makes me a "true lover of books" haha. Also read by Gins, Howl, this afternoon. WONDERFUL poem! "I saw the greatest minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked" <3. 'Nother is Hunter S. Thompson. Dude who wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (one of my favorite books/movies). Utter candor, horribly, darkly hysterical. Dry humor. The best. Also love Damon Runyon. The man spoke about alcoholics & gambling addicts in a way that'd put cunning linguists to shame. He wrote the premis for Guys n Dolls. Movie's good, but the book (actually a compilation of short stories) is far more astounding. I wrote about a bunch of books in another thread here but I don't remember which :s. Haha. Ah, well.

I really love reading- I taught myself to read as a kid before I ever went to school, my aunt tells me she saw me reading one day and said "You can read!", to which I replied "What's that?", a perfect example of my impaired brain- functioning on some level but extremely questionable! My attention stinks so it's a big deal if I can finish a whole book, I'm embarrassed to say, however I adore Joyce Carol Oates- some favorites are: "The Tattooed Girl", "Beasts", "I Close My Door upon Myself", and "Foxfire". One of my recent all time favorites is Philip Roth's "American Pastoral", and I am currently reading an extremely dry bio on Marrianne Faithfull and also "The Affluent Society", by John Galbraith. I love to read books about the brain and am especially excited by the recent research regarding it's plasticity and the effects of meditation. I also enjoy poetry- Sapphire is a favorite as well as Emily Dickinson, William Blake and D.H. Lawrence.

Hi all Well I finished "My Lobotomy" a couple weeks ago...sad story about a young boy, who I believe was 12 when his Step mother talked a Dr. into preforming a lobotomy on him. The very same Dr. who preformed the lobotomy on Rosemary Kennedy. (which left her somewhat veggied) I also finished "The Wednesday Letters" a nice little story although kind of jumping around abit too much for me, although I DID finish it. Next time I'm at the bookstore I'm going to pick up a book by Charles Bukowski. Coldsweat, which one would you recommend? Done, No, I haven't seen "The life before her eyes" what is the plot? Also, ...one of the best books I have ever read was "Fall on your knees" by Ann-Marie McDonald...fantastic story, although most likely a chick book. review from Amazon: A sprawling saga about five generations of a family from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Fall on Your Knees is the impressive first fiction from Canadian playwright and actor Ann-Marie MacDonald. This epic tale of family history, family secrets, and music centers on four sisters and their relationships with each other and with their father. Set in the coal-mining communities of Nova Scotia in the early part of this century, the story also shifts to the battlefields of World War I and the jazz scene of New York City in the 1920s. Hugs...happy reading..

Ham on Rye...a comedy? Or the personal work habits of a Deli meat cutter?
