| Funny Dog Books *Marley and Me has already been mentioned a few times. *What Wendall Wants by Jenny Lee - a dog-obsessed woman with a wheaten terrier who makes me feel like I may not be the most dog-obsessed woman in the universe *Bad Dog - Brown - These are supposed to entertain and horrify you re damage a dog can do. They are funny but only one of these dogs ($10,000 of damage when he trashed plumbing) has outdone my whippet Romeo who destroyed a laptop the week I got him, has trashed the lounge suite twice (second time after it was fixed under insurance), ripped up carpet in a room and loads of lesser damage. *Amazing Gracie - by guys who own 3 dog bakery - made me want to get my own deaf great dane (but I have controlled myself)! *What the dogs have taught me - Merrill Markoe *You are a Dog - Terry Bain - Romeo tried to eat this book but as it was a hardcover, the pages are mostly undamaged. |

Done-With-It, I am hooked on Jodi Picoult as well! I've read "The Pact", "My Sister's Keeper", "Keeping Faith", "The Tenth Circle" and I just started 19 Minutes. They are real page turners! I also love Phillipa Gregory's books, especially "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "The Boleyn Inheritance". I did not see the film of The Other Boleyn Girl, because I heard it was disappointing compared to the book. |

James Clavall's King Rat was depressing, but very good. I wasn't a fan of Shogun although I liked Nobel House so I had mixed feelings going in. I have his Tai Pan lined up once I finish: Game of Shadows which is about the baseball steroid scandal and Murder City: The Bloody History of Chicago in the Twenties. I picked that book up yesterday, and it is about the years my grandfather grew up there so I wanted to capture the atmosphere of his childhood. It sounds like it is just about murder but its actually uses them to frame the time period in the windy city. Has anyone else read Random Family?

I loved The Pact, did you see the movie? My Sisters Keeper just wrapped! I loved the book. How was Keeping Faith? The Tenth Circle was good, they are making that into a movie also. I just got Salem Falls.... 19 Minutes is soo good. I love Jordan, lol, isn't he great. I guess in one of the books he is an ass, some people don't like him, but I DOOOOOO.. ![]() You'll have to let me know what you think of 19 minutes. If you think something let me know what you think, I knew right away... You know how she does 'stuff'..... lol

I wound up liking the movie "into the Wild" far better than the book. Unusual. Let's see.....re-read an old James Patterson Eyes of A Child, which I will keep because of it's insight into domestic abuse. Hope you like Red Tent, Rowan....I cannot fathom that woman's imagination! I have read some time fillers but nothing worth mentioning. Re-ordered (again!) Erich Fromm's Art of Loving. Besides being good, it has a Rumi poem in it I dearly love. Course "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran ranks up there with the best of the best with me.

| Casino-Love And Honor In Las Vegas-Nicholas Pileggi. Fascinating story of how the Mafia lost it's grip on Las Vegas. Much better than the movie, though the movie was highly entertaining.

I've been so darn busy driving I haven't had much time to read! But, right now I'm reading "The Woods" by Harlen Coben...some of the story seems errily familiar. The story is intertwined with 2 issues. One is 2 couples that disappeared while on at a youth camp.. ...the other story seems almost like the Duke Rape case..... I'm halfway through, but it's really not holding my interest. I remember having a patient in the hospital once, a little elderly woman, who read alot. She said she only reads a book to the page of her age, and if it doesn't keep her interest by then, she tosses it..LOL Happy reading all... I'll be leaving for vacation on Sunday for 8 weeks, and have no PC access where I'm going...so keep reading...(I will too!)

OOhh that is a good title. I've got so many great suggestions from this thread. I stopped at the drugstore on way home tonight and bought Janet Evanovich most recent title - yikes, the price of hardcovers! I can't wait to tuck into bed with it! |

Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral by Kris Radish For Katherine Givens and the four women about to become her best friends, the adventure begins with a UPS package. Inside is a pair of red sneakers filled with ashes and a note that will forever change their lives. Katherine's oldest and dearest friend, the irrepressible Annie Freeman, left one final request--a traveling funeral--and she wants the most important women in her life as "pallbearers." From Sonoma to Manhattan, Katherine, Laura, Rebecca, Jill, and Marie will carry Annie's ashes to the special places in her life. At every stop there's a surprise encounter and a small miracle waiting, and as they whoop it up across the country, attracting interest wherever they go, they share their deepest secrets--tales of broken hearts and second chances, missed opportunities and new beginnings. And as they grieve over what they've lost, they discover how much is still possible if only they can unravel the secret Annie left them.... * As these women are traveling to there different destinations, they do tend to drink quite a bit. So if this is a trigger for anyone please do not read it*

In terms of Hard Copy books I just finished AutoFocused about the Bob Crane murder (I bought it after seeing the movie which was heavy but good) and a book on Jonestown. I am now carrying around my paperback of Homicide: A year on the killing streets which is the book the series was based on. I just finished the new VC Andrews as well. As always it was great summer reading. I can't wait to start The Once and Future King which is the book the musical Camelot and Disney film Sword and the Stone are both based on. Gee, can you tell I'm a reader?

Another bookworm checking in! I loved "The Red Tent"! "Pillars of the Earth" was good too. The sequel was pretty good, "World Without End". If you like animals, here's a few good ones: "Tail Chaser's Song" by Tad Williams. It's sort of a "Watership Down" with cats. "The Autobiography of Foudini M. Cat" is a great read, from a cat's point of view. Cats are such drama queens! I've just finished the new series "Twilight" about a teen aged girl in love with a vampire. The fourth book has been released but I'm poor to buy it until it's in paperback. It's a fun read, pure escapism. Thanks for the recommends! Lenina |

My sis passes her paperbacks on to me and I leave them at the outdoor cafe tables outside the tobacco shop. I am currently reading Kathy Reichs "Break No Bones" a forensic murder mystery, but this is a fresh voice with a sense of humor. Haven't finished it so not going to vote. Have read bunches of others but nothing stand out. I would like to read that one Drinking a Love Story By Caroline Knapp because isn't she the one that wrote "The Liars Club"? I loved it!

Am I the only David Sedaris fan here? Just reading the new one "When You Are Engulfed in Flames" and it's so sickly funny, just like everything else he writes. Half the time you don't know whether to laugh, cry, or run out of the room. One story starts out like this: "On the flight to Raleigh, I sneezed, and the cough drop I'd been sucking on shot from my mouth, ricocheted off my folded tray table, and landed, as I remember it, on the lap of the woman next to me, who was asleep..."
