I'm in the middle of it - It's great! I can't stop thinking about the concept of a "pain-body." Interestingly, I discovered after reading about it, there actually is a physiological explanation for it. But I'll wait until you get there

My favorite two all time classics are "Wuthering Heights" and "My Antonia"

I just finished "Into the Wild" Awesome.

"The Memory Keepers Daughter" was wonderful.


"The Pact" by Jodi Picoult is difficult subject matter but wonderful also


I'm sure I'll think of lots more.

"A New Earth" - I haven't been able to put it down.

It's so much to take in and deal with.

And, parts of it brought me close to tears - why didn't I know this before?

Is it written in layman terms, Anna? I had difficulty with his earlier book, The Power of Now and just couldn't wrap my head around the terms and language.
My addictions doctor was reading 'A New Earth' this weekend and seemed quite engrossed.

The book is a learning process and it's definitely readable. I've finished it now, and I do plan on reading it again. It is a bit overwhelming, but he takes you through the process slowly and gradually and it's amazing.

I honestly had no idea that the chatter in my head wasn't really 'me' and that I could separate myself from it and turn it off.

Good Morning all,

Here's a couple of the books I've read so far, I can't seem to find one I really enjoy. I lovew trade paperbacks, those big ones, but it seems nothing new has come out.

"The year of magical thinking" By Joan Didion
This is a true story of a woman grieving the death of her husband.
I found it slow, and sad, (naturally) but unbelieable that it made the best seller list. Maybe I just didn't get it.

"The Gathering" by Anne Enright
This is an Irish story, (I love most Irish writers) it's about a woman whose brother has commited suicide, after his life of alcoholism, and drug addiction, and the nine surviving children are getting together for his funeral.
It was so-so.

"Going After Cacciato" by Tim O'Brien
I read Tims second book previously called, "The things they Carried" related to the Vietnam war, and it was a wonderful book. This was not so much.
This is a story about a group of men who go looking for a soldier who goes AWOL trying to walk to Paris.

I am now reading "I know this much is True" by Wally Lamb.
I think I have read this one before, but it's a good book dealing with a man whose twin is a schizophrenic....so far so good.

i like robert parker books, have now and then out right now from the library along with a couple graphic novels.

i buy one comic book a week, i just like the stories and the art. When my nephews learn to read i'll just hand them over to them whenever i see them for them to have.

I loved 'I know this Much is True' by Wally Lamb. I thought it was a great story. I think it's about a person going through a lot of stuff and surviving. And, I loved Wally Lamb's other book 'She's Come Undone'. It's funny and said and he must have really been in touch with his feminine side, because I kept thinking the book must be written by a woman.

I was so disappointed in Joan Didion's book 'The Year of Magical Thinking'. I was expecting some real insight into how she dealt with the loss of her husband, and it just went nowhere. It was flat.

I read 2 1/2 books yesterday, so I qualify. Oddly some of the books many of you seem to like, I found too boring to finish...Angela's ashes was just so redundant I gave it away..enough all ready......I could not get interested in I know This much is true either.
The Grisham Innocent Man I am also yawning at.

I would like to highly recommend "The Red Tent"....it's been out several years but it is one of the few fictions I have found outstanding. Someone also mentioned Pillars of The Earth which I think is a keeper. I believe there is a sequel out? I re-read Grapes of Wrath often. Daughter raved about the movie Into the Wild...said it made her think of me and re-think alot about her worldview, so, of course I ran out and bought it. S0-SO, maybe the movie is better.
Yesterday I read The Innocent by Harlen Cohen (sister passes along the escapist thrillers etc) It was good. Then I read a book about racism, interesting to me as I like sociology. And started another quick FBI thriller which I will finish to pass the time but it has supernatural aspects which usually rules a book out for me.i.e, paranormal etc. I always have several books going, it is the thrillers I read in one sitting. I have Jimmy Carter's book "The Virtues of Aging" here. I am sure it will be wise and insightful but have only read a bit of it. Have been studying Greek mythology online. I went online and printed out the list of all the Nobel literature prize winners recently, the 2008 winner is Doris Lessing. She has a series of 5 books, as well as others. I read two of the series, out of order...am witholding my opinion until I have seen more of her. Another biography I particulary like is The Liars Club by Mary Karr. I loved it, I think it has won some prizes and she has a sequel out that I haven't read. Maybe I am afraid I will be disappointed or also because I bounce around so much.

Hey live, I just started The Red Tent last night after two recommendations from friends.

I recently finished Miss Misery by Andy Greenwald. An interesting story - kind of dark. I really enjoyed it and may pass it on to my niece. It will appeal to younger readers, especially those of the blogging generation.

Whenever I find the time, I'm going to start "the Woods, by Harlan Coben it's a murder mystery kind of book.
