| I appreciate you all! and a quick question
First I wanted to tell everyone here that I really appreciate you all. I've been clean for 8 days now and I've read the messages at least a few times a day. Each time I have a craving for hydrocodone I log on and read the messages and gather strength from you all. Also, I have a quick question for anyone who has gone through hydrocodone withdrawal: What's up with my legs feeling so horrible? I constantly feel like I have to shake them... |

Yup, restless legs. They are miserable and annoying but that symptom will go away (soon). Try lots of warm baths like Karma said. BIG CONGRATS on your 8 days!

Have you ever been to a NA meeting, or any 12 stpe meeting? They are also very helpful while coming off the pills. Alot of support there too.. Keep reading, and posting when you can.. It all helps.. The kicks are awful - it helped for me to take a hot bath - some advil right before bedtime. I hated that more than anything else. I believe the Advil helped to take the edge of the jumping kicking legs.

Thanks everyone. Yes, today is day 9, and I'm making it. I had a big test this morning, as my wife and I had a bad fight over the kids again. As I pass each of those little tests it makes me more confident that I really can do this. Reading about others on this board really helps too. The legs are definitely better today too!

I also found that a little massage really seemed to help. I would just use a little massage cream with a small scent (to make it seem that I was giving myself a treat instead of treating the illness

There are some very relaxing teas available that I found helped with the "restless legs" Celestial Seasonings makes some "wellness" teas that really promote a relaxing night's sleep.

AVR, Congrats on 10 days and the legs being restless and achy will pass. The hot baths are good--even showers helped. Also, take a good multi-vitamin and keep your water intake up. What else are you doing for your recovery? Keep posting. We are here if you need us!

This drove me crazy, too, AVR. But one thing that did help me, if only just some (which was WAY better than nothing) was, no matter what time it was, to get up and just "shake it off" and to WALK forcefully even if it's just to the kitchen and back a few times, which is what I would do. If you are in a prone position, it's not like it's going to go away immediately so you may as well get up for a few minutes and move those muscles. Besides, if you are in bed lying trying to sleep, you are not going to have an easy time doing so. So it doesn't hurt to try it during the misery! I would pretty much "MARCH," as if going off to war, stomping my feet, because it drove me nuts! Marching and doing it with some strength helped me get to sleep. I didn't do it but a few minutes. The muscles just feel like Jello and I just tried to do anything to help them. So I found that I had to apply pressure when I got up to move around, getting my muscles to feel better. Then I would lie back down. If it continued, I would do it again. I found it somewhat helpful.

Yes, snowhite brings up a good point. Move those legs when you can. I found that exercise helped A LOT in early recovery. I didn't have much energy, but even a walk around the block helped. Exercise is also helps the brain chemistry.

Thanks for your ideas everyone! Yes, today is day 10, Dawn10. As far as what else I'm doing for recovery, NA and AA are not for me, mostly because I work about 60-70 hours a week and have 4 kids. My wife has been very supportive and I am also going to a therapist (although he just really wants to prescribe antidepressants). Mostly this board is my hour by hour help. Thanks to everyone.

AVR, I understand the "no time" thing for meetings, but I will just share that I did make the time to go to meetings. If that really can't work for you and you are not finding your therapist meeting your needs, seek out one who is an addictions specialist. They really understand what we are going through as many are in recovery themselves.

AVR, I just want to congratulate you on day 10. I hope I can make it ten days. Luckily, I don't have the restless legs but just make sure you take a multivitamin everyday and try taking a bath or shower like the others suggested. Good Luck... |
