Minor milestone
Well, I'm 6 months HC free. I kept some pills around but got rid of them yesterday. I have no refills left and my insurance carrier has dropped my MD's hospital from their program so there is almost no chance I'll be able to get more (legitimately). I have no cravings or desire to use and I feel like I've opened one door and closed another.
On another positive note I'll be turning 50 in a couple of days. Sober and wiser I hope.
I feel like I've gotten my life back. Now there are a dozen or more important things to do & work on . . . .

Thanks, BisSys.
I'm not familiar with the term "24's". Is that kinda like high 5's and a big 10-4?
;-)

Hey Buzz,,
the term 24's refers to the 24 hours we have accumulated..
Ya know, since we as addicts, and alcoholics take our lives, one day at a time, ( or one hour at a time, or even a minute at a time ) So you have a nice pile of 24's!!
Love ya!!
Hope you are having a great B-day!!
Prayers

Congratulations...
and as a guy in my home group always says "never forget that YOU are the miracle...for every day that an addict does not pick up a drug is a miracle"...
6 months is not "minor"...
Celebrate with cake and ice cream...
& happy birthday as well!

Man of man, congrats!!! I was reading one of your other posts just before this one and thinking, this guys really where I'd like to be. You are an inspiration for me. I am fooling myself into staying clean for two months. Yesterday I got a real bad migraine and really wanted the pills but held off. I'm tired of feeling sick after I take a couple of pills, minor Wd's. I'm figuring if I don't take any pills for a couple of months then I should be able to take one or two only when sick. Yes I know I'm only fooling myself. BUT, your success has me motivated and hopefully when my two months are up I'll have the balls to throw out the pills like you!
Way to go!!!!!! Very very happy for ya.

Thanks, y'all, for the kind words and wishes.
The big 5-0. Truth be known, I never thought I'd make it to 40. Now I'm thinking about what I might plan for my 60's and 70's . . . . go figure.
* * *
Notkernals: I remember something I heard a long time ago: Sometimes there is only one drink between an alcoholic and the gutter.
My rationale for keeping the meds around was self-deception: What if I needed them? Or else, "If I've really conquered my addiction I ought to be able to look at these things and not use them." There might have been a little truth to the latter, but I think that I kept them around due to the same behavior that made me an addict . . . .
I didn't trust myself to take even one after 3,4,5, or 6 months. I didn't enjoy the WD experience and definitely didn't want to revisit it.
If I have to use opiates for a bona fide medical reason in the future I will deal with it then. Until then, I want nothing more to do with them.
What I discovered is that ibuprofen (Motrin) probably did more for my aches and pains than Lortab. I'll bet there are non-opiates that will better address your migrane pain, too.
Dumping the pills must have been a bigger step then I realized . . .
Good luck with your journey.

HAPPY 5-0 BUZZ !!!
That is funny you said that .....i was always telling myself...oh my tooth hurts, better take a norco...oh I have a little headache...better take 10 more and so on...so I am 34 days clean today and I had a toothache yesterday and took 2 ibuprofen and guess what....It worked....I had to laugh bacause my husband always said "why can't you just take some ibuprofen"
And I would say it does not work....besides I have all this norco....
and yes dumping those pills was a big step.....
