Hello Walk Yep - this is the place. I stopped by just a few months ago - up to the gills in opiates - am now free of all pills by 2 weeks! YAY! I know in my heart that I would never be at this stage had I not come in here and asked for help. Somehow just writing it all down seems to crystallise the whole thing.................... Loads of information and tons of support. Want to tell us anything about yourself? woops |

Gotta echo what others have said Walk, it's taken me 18 years now to get the cajonas to really commit to quit. As has been mentioned, meetings are a good place to start, but going to meetings can't "fix" you, it can only show you a way to help "fix" yourself. You have to do the work, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you it is hard work. When you have a hard job to do, it is usually easier if you have some help, and that is alot of what meetings are about, finding a group of loving people who want to help you get better. Give it a shot, you have nothing to lose. Also be aware that there are other support groups other than 12-step one's out there. The 12-step programs (AA/NA/CA, etc) are much more available than others, but they are not the only game in town, other programs do exist like SMART recovery, Lifering, Rational Recovery, etc. You can find a list of them here on the site under 12-step alternatives. Personally I think the 12 step programs are an excellent place to start, but if it's not the right fit, don't be afraid to keep trying things until you find what is right for you. All the best, take care.

Thanks all. Woops, to your specific question. I have visited many emergency rooms over the years and acquired an appetited for opiates. A little over a year ago, I got into an accident that required a three week hospital stay and plenty of morphine, precocet, etc... Seems that was enough to document a "need" to these online pharmacies and I have been doing about 50mg/day of hydro since. Also, I like to drink and the combination seems especially effective. I realize I gotta quit both now. Any suggestions on a taper program? I have about 80 of the 10mg tabs to work with. Just for the record, I have tried tappering before without success. I think if I can stop the drinking first, that may help. |

Thanks for all the comments. I have one question though: Has anyone started AA or NA while still using? If so, did it help jump-start you in the right direction? I have also been given a sponsor/contact by a professional but have yet to call.

Hi Walk Have answered you on the thread Day 17 - I combined taper and c/t. It worked for me. I suspect there are as many ways to get off opiates as there are people? I wouldn't rule anything out............... and if you have access to some professional help - then why not jump at it? The more information you have - the easier it is to decide what you want to do? Good luck woops |
