I've been sick with influenza, I went to the doctor and he gave me some cough medicine with codeine. I had been clean for over a year, and thought I could take it as directed. What a joke. Soon 1 tsp. every 12 hours became 1 tbls. every 6 hours. Then I discovered some leftover pain pills from my husband's surgery and took them along with the codeine, went through 2 bottles of each in a week's time. Now I'm feeling horrible, lower than a snake's belly. I guess it's time to approach my recovery as seriously as I approached my using, and address all my addictions, including my spending. I resolve to get re-involved with either (or both) NA or AA. This is so difficult! I awoke a sleeping giant--the cravings are awful. Thanks so much for listening.

Cat, welcome back. Don't be to hard on yourself. This is a wake-up call, now you know and you have the evidence that you cannot play around or you will be off to the races. Being in the recovery process, this is a part of your discovery. Now, you have to get down to business. Start making meetings, obtain a sponsor, start working the steps. All that will start you in the right direction. The next time Jon calls for a chat-room, come on down and share your experience. You will feel so much better, and keep in mind that we are here for you. Just for Today--------I am Sober

Im glad that you brought up this point about scripts, as my first relapse happened that same way, and I also had been clean a year!!! It was the pits!!! Unfortunately I couldn't forgivemyself and my backsliding led to numerous relapes thereafter. My selfesteem was close to nonexistant reinforsed by rape, rejection, and plainly living in the pitts of despair. After some eight years of running around in that cycle, I slowly began to work on the foregivingness of self, so much easier said than internally done. And also worked on reprograming negative thought patters into good ones, please don't make the same mistakes I made, forgive yourself and move on, the stronger, the better and the wiser for it!!!
