| am I considered a addict?
I am now recovering from alchoholism but I use to smoke alot of pot, especially when I was in college. I have not been high for 14 years. I have been thinking about my past lately and I havre to admit that I have done my share of pot, I have also tried other things but only once did I try them, I didnt like them. I use to smoke alot and when I was out i would even scrape the bong to get the residue out to smoke it. I was able to give it up without any problems. Just quit it one day and never looked back. I just dont know if I would consider myself a recovering addict or not.

Alcohol is a drug. Nicotine is a drug. I am sure that if we try some of the drugs that others use, we may get addicted as well. Alcohol just happens to be my drug of choice. Pot, I was able to walk away from. I would pretty much bet that the heavier drugs would cause an addiction in almost anyone. Just like that first taste of beer or that first ciggerette... it is an aquired taste. We put up with it, till we like it more. The yuck feeling from drugs I get would be the same. Once past it, I think it would be a given...hooked.

While I consider myself a recovering opiate addict,it took me a while realize that I was also an alcoholic.......I wasn't sure, because I had stopped drinking sooooooo long before I stopped heroin. I went through some pictures I had in my little picture box (I have the nerve to call a photo album)lol....And I looked at me and my best freinds from "back in the day".....In every picture,I had a bottle of some alcoholic beverage in my hand....and thinking back,I was an alcoholic.... As for weed,I was just like you.....lots of it,for about 15 yrs. I know I was a pothead....... For me,if I did it too much,I was addicted. I am safer that way. Too many people I know swear they didn't have a problem with alcohol....so they drank. I guess that it would be up to you what you would like to consider yourself.. Just be safe

"pot isn't addictive" FALSE. Pot doesn't give you the same physical withdrawal symptoms as other drugs (e.g. opiates, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine) but it is highly addictive. You don't get a big physicial withdrawal because your body stores THC in fat cells. The fat cells continue to slowly release THC into your bloodstream as you come off the drug. So, it actually takes weeks or months to get the drug out of your system. About being an addict...Although you quit pot seemingly easily, weren't you still drinking? If you were not drinking, would you be smoking? For me, I had a problem admitting that I was an alcoholic. I did my share of drinking, but alcohol was not my drug of choice. However, I came to realize I was an alcoholic because 1) when I drank, I lost control; and 2) if I did not have my drug of choice, I would be drinking. |
