Hey everyone. Thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Tony and I currently work as a Substance Abuse Counselor, specifically Methadone. I've been doing this for about 10 years now and I really enjoy it. I have a BA in Psychology and still have so much to learn about people, behaviors, addiction and why people relapse. I have a question - in the past 2 months, i have attempted rapid detox from heroin using methadone 4 times. Usually I take methadone for 4 days after my last hit of gear, and then try to stay the course until im clean totally.

This most recent time, I found that, after 9 days, i was still feeling rough (worse than day 6,7 and 8). This was the longest i'd been clean for a long time, but i got scared that i had a meth habit, and so i went and scored (what a d*ck).

Tell me, is it possible that ive now got a meth habit, or does withdrawal usually last so long when u use methadone to get thru it.

If you need any more information, I have detailed records of my consumption and attempts to quit over the last 2.5 months.

I have a quick ?. I am now on 40mg of methadone. A lot of people on here are on suboxten, I hope I spelled it right!!! How do I put this, when I was on 10mg a lot of people would say that is a lot. I would hear them talk about suboxten, that they only took 1mg in 24 hr or something. Is that equal to 10mg of methadone? Another person said they took only 1/4 of a mg of it, u can't even do that with methadone. I felt like crap cuz they were saying that I was on a lot, but I know people on 100mg or more! I apologize if you don't understand my ?. Thank you!!!!

Kaotic...Because methadone stays in your system a longer than heroin and your dose may not be at the appropiate level, those may be one of other reasons why your withdrawals may feel more intense with Methadone than with Heroin. I'd seriously consider you seek medical attention and consider a 21 day detox, or something more long term.

Alycia, 10mg on Methadone is a realtively low dose but even then, you shouldn't worry about what people say about your dose or your program. Suboxone is a new treatment, I don't know too much about it but brief therapy for addiction in my opinion isn't really helpful. Why? Because addiction always has 2 components, the physical and the psychological addiction. Suboxone like Methadone helps with the physical, but what about the psychological?
