percocet Hi, I have been on percocet for a post knee surgery, to which I have become dependent. When I stop them I get terrible terrible withdrawals, the headaches are untolerable. Is there a way to wean myself off and will it make the withdrawals easier or do I really need to go into rehab. I am trying to find a job as I have been a housewife only for the past 10 years. But I am afraid to start a job and not be able to continue. Please send any advice you could share. I am to the point where I take the percocet now just to feel normal.

Hi, Sorry to hear about your knee. My first question would be is there other drugs in your life or is this the first sign of any addiction? My best advice would be to let your doctor know what is happening so he might give you something else for a short time. In any case the best thing is to just stop using. I can ony speak for myself, but sometimes pain is a good thing. It lets us know we are still alive. You have done a good first step in addmitting you are powerless over this drug. Find a meeting in your area and learn that there is a better way of life. It works for me. Best of Luck Always Shadow

thanks shadow. Well I take antidepressants, but alcohol used to be a problem, but since the painkillers I cant stomach the alcohol. But there has always been some addiction. This one is the worst because of the withdrawals. I guess starting with my doctor would be a good idea. There are also rehabs in my area I need to check out. Thanks and good luck to you.

You are very welcome. Please keep us posted and continue to use this and other forums to help you through. It truely does work for me. When I can't get to meeting or sometimes when I am just sitting here a little deppresed, I log on and just read what is going on with someone else and it helps me to remember what it was like using everyday. I pray that I never go back to that way of life because it would surely mean death. And not neccesarily in the literal sense. It would start with the end of my family life and progress from there. I have put my loved ones through a living nightmare over my drug using days. I wasn't there for my wife or children when I should have been. God has given me a second chance in life with two grandsons who think the world of me. I know it probably does't make a lot of sense but to me that is my best reason to stay straight. I plan to be there for them whenever they need me. I am sure there is someone in your life who needs you to be there for them. Let it be a start and work up from there. May God Bless you Shadow
