| what to expect for cocaine withdrawal
My 17 year old son admitted to being addicted to cocaine last Saturday and wanted to get into detox. Because of his age we are having a hard time to find a place locally that will take him. His last fix was on Sunday morning and when he woke up yesterday he was feeling pretty good. He said if a place can't be found that he would try it on his own - if that's the case he will get some counseling. He did pretty well throughout the day yesterday - ate okay - he would fill his plate up with food but only eat half of it but then 2 hours later be looking in the kitchen for more - I did notice that he had the shakes really really bad - oh yes I forgot to mention that he has bronchitis - they put him on an inhaler, antibiotic and a non-narcotic pill for the cough - last night he said I am going to bed and he was coughing forever and then ended up vomitting - is the vomitting part of the withdrawal or do could it be from his bronchitis??? After that he couldn't get to sleep and coughed for a couple of hours - then finally fell asleep. He has been drinking water, taking a vitamin and drinking detox tea. Is there anything else he can do? I did read about the aches and told him to take baths. I will call our family doctor today to let him know what is going on - we had been to ER over the weekend for the bronchitis and substance abouse. |

I am sorry as Im not much on cocain addiction But any court system or even law enforcement agent can refer or give good advice on Ur problem and start Ur minor son in right direction. If U know a law offical or someone who does, see if U can talk to them. With Ur son being a minor everything will be dicrete. This is only a thought He may not want to go this route mabe there is another way good luck

| I've been there
I went through this only a few short months ago when I too decided to detox. I had the shakes, which go away fairly quickly. In fact I don't think they really last more then a few days for me and got less noticable every day. I don't know if that's standard, but that's how it was for me. I also slept alot a first. My body was exhausted and malnurished to the point where sometimes I would sleep all night and then nap for about four hours or more and go right back to bed that following night. As for his appetite it's good he's eatting at all because for me I had no appetite for a while. I didn't go to rehab, I did it on my own at a close friend of mine house who had been through it before. The main thing for me was getting away from people who didn't understand what was going on and were angry at me. It took about two weeks for me to start feeling better physically. Unfortunately I still have cravings to use every now and then and I'm not certain that they ever go away completely but they do lessen with time. It's sounds like he has a lot of love and support going for him and that is what he needs the most right now. I also got depressed and irritated after I quit using. So be prepared for that. Cocaine makes you have such a high, euphoric feeling that when you stop using you are at what seems like an all time low. The depression was the hardest part for me. MOstly I just had to forgive myself and think positive. Just hang in there. one thing that helped me emensely was filling in where the drugs use to be with other things. Exercise, even if it's just a short walk every day and socializeing with people who made me feel good but that I know didn't use so it was safe to be with them. Get him to start posting on here too because it is a wonderful place for advice and support. It's a rough road, but it's not impossible to over come this. It just takes time and support. Just remember to be patient and supportive. Everything will work out. Running

ragidman - my sister actually gave me a name of a woman that is the director for the coalition for youth through the police department - I left her a message to give me a call - she just called me and gave me tons of good information - ughhhhh - why didn't they give me her website and number at the hospital - they will for people in the future - I mentioned it to her and she said she was calling the hospital once she got of the phone - she has already done all the grunt work that I was doing and knew what sources were best running - thank you for the info - he is sleeping well this morning - I am not looking forward to him being irritable - he has always had major mood swings and when he is a grump he is a grump - I am concerned about leaving him alone - I am self employed and work out of the home but I coach high school soccer and have practice in the afternoon - maybe his girlfriend can come over when she gets out of school |
