Fioricet contains codeine, I believe.

Oooh! Noooo, stay away from Tramadol, too, Honey. It's baaaaad stuff. Doctors first started marketing it as non-addictive, so patients and recovering addicts were popping them like crazy, only to become addicted to those, too (Ultram) and the withdrawal is a mess; seizures, etc. I'm also a migraine sufferer and I have amazing results from Maxalt. It's a rizatriptan benzoate (similar to Imitrex) and I take the 5 mg. orally disintegrating tablet. It works immediately on my migraines and after being a guinea pig for years and years (15-20 ish) I've found this is the most effective. Good luck! |

Fioricet contains Butalbital, tylenol and caffine. Butalbital is a barbituate. (taking too much of it will get you loaded)

| Butalbital! THAT was the name I was trying to think of! (I used to take fioricet for migraines, now I'm taking something else.) Thanks Blake, for correcting me.

LOL. I never researched it. They have me on amitryptilene (sp) for preventing the migraines, only had fioricet when I had one bad enough to land me in the ER - then they'd give me composine for the nausea (seems to get rid of the headache if you get rid of the nausea) and send me home with a couple of fioricet. All it did for me was make me get the nausea back.

That's what I'm hooked on-well same drug but with aspirin instead of the tylenol. It is nasty stuff to get clean off of and very addicting. It gives you a very nice high. Oh, trust me on that one! Unless you are very closely watched by your doc, don't take this stuff! BTW, there is capsule of fiorinal (that's the one I was on) that contains codiene as well as the straight tabs. I was on the tabs. |

odie, Things that work for my migraines are soak in a hot bath, coffee, Advil Migraine, and rest. Especially in a dark, quiet room.

I got glasses and it cleared mine right up. I was getting them because of too much eye strain. When was the last time you had an eye exam? Maybe that might have something to do with it?

Rebound headaches from Fiorinal/Fioricet...you mean those things that cause you to wake up in the morning feeling like a meat cleaver is running right down the middle of your head...and that's a good one...the worse ones are the ones that make you want a lobotomy from the throbbing of the front of your head...all the while you are worshiping the toilet. Nasty things they are. Sometimes I couldn't even stand the sound of someone typing in the other room, much less them laughing at the TV two or three rooms away, as my senses were heightened and I wouldn't know when to expect to hear the noise. Othertimes I would draw pictures of my head exploding or take the pen and color a page in black I felt so awful. The worst part is I didn't know when my fiorinal would give me a rebound...until the next morning. I'd either be fine or in the black pit.

((((odeya)))), Glad your headache is gone! Yeah, the Fioricet has butalbital in it which makes you sleepy, but it also has caffeine which keeps you awake. Sounds like you found this out the hard way. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Love and hugs, Eddie |

Fiorinal/Fioricet doesn't keep you awake...oh you think the fact my bedtime moved up 6 hours when I cut my dose in half might have something to do with that? LOL

Hi I was taking Ultram it is bacically the same thing as Fioricet they are not narcotics so at first when they came out they said they were non addicting but then they realized that they work like narcotic pain killers and that they were addicting.Beleive me they are I was addicted to ultram for over a year it was hell.
