I have a question I hope you all can help me with. My mother is the A. in my life and has been for the last 18 years. Week before last she became ill with the flu, and was constantly throwing up. She went to the doctor and they told her she had an urinary tract infection, gave her medicine and sent her home. Her condition got worse and worse, to the point where she was unable to walk yesterday so she was rushed to the hospital where they admitted her. They confirmed the urinary infection and said she was dehydrated. When I went to go visit she was shaking all over and said she had the chills. Now my question to you all is; is any of this signs of withdrawal from alcohol seeing that she hasn't has a drink in two weeks (says she tried twice but kept throwing it up). What exactly are the withdrawal symptoms? I'm sure it may be different with every person but any and all information would be of great help. And please pray for her. Thanks to everyone, love you all

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. Did you tell the doctor that she has recently stopped drinking? That is the first thing that I would do,, and also tell him her drinking history, even if she doesn't want you to. You can do it privately. Alcohol withdrawl is dangerous. So tell him right away. I don't really know the symptoms of alcohol witdrawl, just drug withdrawl. I would imagine they are some what the same, and it sounds like symptoms of withdrawl to me, but I would be very wrong to tell you that they are. Her doctor needs to know all of this, he really does, let him take care of it, He will know waht to do if it is.. I will have your mom in my prayers. You can come here though anytime, and we will support you as much as possible I hope she's ok, please let us know.. Love, Becky

Yes, Odie is correct. But if the doc. doesn't know she is an Alcoholic who recently stopped, he may not check her for these things. Doesn't Hep. make you jaundice? Yellow skin and eyes..?? Love, Becky

I'm no doctor, don't even play one on TV. But, my wife had a urinary tract infection at one time, she went thru a couple of different antibiotics until they finally determined it was E-Coli. That called for Cipro. Puking, aching, fever, chills, and almost an inability to move accompanied all of that time as she became worse and worse. Cipro cleared it up, and after that nuke of antibiotics she ate a lot of yogurt to rebuild the 'good' bacteria. That took a while. But, these are also definitely the same symptoms of alcohol withdrawl, I can assure you. So, I see my post is dated ... but just wanted to chime in. Beware of E-coli when a simple urinary tract infection becomes not so simple. |
